    Shave of the Day

I scrubbed and sterilized (scrub, boiled 10 minutes, overnight in rubbing alcohol) that "red tip". I can now see the date info- it's a 1955 (second quarter) Gilette Super Speed. I've tried it now with two blades. The Feather gave a wonderfully close shave, but with some blood, especially around...

    Viberg or Whites Service Boots

When I bought my Viberg boots they were the least expensive option by far. The exchange rate was quite favorable. No longer. Mine are stitched well. But they just aren't as nice to wear or look at than my Wesco boots.

    Wareing leather jacket

Nice find. I'd guess you can research Thermex polyester lining to find out how early it was made. One way to date "not earlier than". Not to be confused with Thermex glass water heater insulation.

    Viberg or Whites Service Boots

I don't know that they are defective. One boot I got that way seemed to be a run of leather that they were discontinuing (very nice leather!) and the other didn't seem to have defects either. Maybe a custom order that wasn't picked up? A lot of the boots on the Wesco "seconds" list aren't...

    Viberg or Whites Service Boots

Wesco's Factory Seconds page has been good to me. If you're looking for the equivalent for White's, check this out: https://www.ebay.com/sch/whitesriver/m.html

FDR's Japanese Concentration Camps (jacket content)

An amazing set of photos from Dorothea Lange. Not just for the period content, but also as a reminder of a terrible thing that happened in that time and can happen again. https://anchoreditions.com/blog/dorothea-lange-censored-photographs

    Viberg or Whites Service Boots

I have a pair of Vibergs I bought many years ago (here they are, when new: https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/viberg-boots.42226/page-3#post-974307). They're super heavy (mind you, even compared to the Wesco Black Tie, double-thick sole boots I'm wearing as I write this), but top notch...

    Shave of the Day

Hm. This appears to be a dead thread. I did some research and I appear to have a 1954-1957 Gillette Super Speed Red Tip razor. Looking forward to trying it. A selection of blades on order from Italian Barber.

    Vintage Mink Oil?

Hm... leaning toward tossing the tin of mink oil and sticking with Pecard's. Thanks all!

    Vintage Mink Oil?

@Seb Lucas this would be for boots, not jackets, and not vintage. I'm not sure the same concerns apply. @handymike, that's why I'm finding sources of the old stuff. Not sure if mink oil is made from actual animal fat?

    Shave of the Day

What did I buy today? It has no brand on it. Mechanism works perfectly. And what blades should I get for it? Edit: Google seems to be telling me it's a 1955-1957 Gillette. I scrubbed it a bit and sure enough the name Gillette appears. Still interested to know more and to know what blades...

    Vintage Mink Oil?

Hi All, I know mink oil products are generally not so great anymore. I picked up a can of vintage Bailey's mink oil shoe grease. Generally I'm a Pecard's guy, but this cost almost nothing... Should I use it on shoes/boots? Could it be spoiled? Could it be great? Anyone with any experience...

Iconic Sears Hercules on yahoo Japan-Come and get it!

In my experience, much more limited than yours, vintage sizes are at least one size smaller than modern ones. I wear a modern 50 and am hoping this one will work for me. I don't expect a tight fit, but I don't necessarily want one in this style. I have an early Score horsehide coat (Toronto...

Iconic Sears Hercules on yahoo Japan-Come and get it!

--------- Thanks for that. Amazing that there was only one bidder. I notice he took down his other auction after that one ended. Too bad- it was a nice size 50 horsehide NOS Ricard.

What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

If you're in Oakland, why not go to SF and pick one up at Johnson Leathers? If the ones on the rack don't work for you, go custom for the price of something on the rack at Standard & Strange.

Very nice. Odd thing to focus on, but the pocket design is outstanding. Any idea what he does to the leather to get that finish?
