The Official Stetson Nutria Quality Thread

Don't speak for me, it's rude and unnecessary. If you have an opinion it's yours to defend. Absolutely no reason to speak for 'everybody', especially since no one is forced to read anyone else's posts. It's the easiest thing to just skip over posts, their author is listed at the top of each...

Hi new here. Is wearing a leather jacket basically an invitation for trouble?

I think this thread has also released some bad juju, and perhaps some deep ancestral long buried currents of violence have been unleashed upon all who have gazed upon it. I noticed this morning that my German Shepherd was looking sideways at the screen of my laptop as I was reading through the...

Hi new here. Is wearing a leather jacket basically an invitation for trouble?

IME you'll attract more trouble 'acting a bit tougher' than just being yourself, neutral, and not acting anything. The people who are looking for a fight usually will find one, but not from ordinary people minding their own business, n matter what they're wearing. Perfectos have become so...

In response to being asked where your bike is, how about : How should I know, she's YOUR mom ! That's fun, though your neck might end up being the snappy part.

Dating Your Hat (A Place to Discuss the Age of Your Vintage Hat)

Shameless is his middle name. Boo frickety hoo. He sent me a picture of himself, if it's real he looks to be in his 50s or roundabouts. I can send it to you and you can respond to him by sending him the picture and claiming it's a photo of yourself, that'll confuse him.

Perhaps you can help us by showing us what indicates the hat is from the '50s and not the '60s? I'm curious, especially since you seem to be saying the hat remained unchanged from the 1920's to the 1950s. Regarding the value, IME it's the actual date of manufacture that determines desirability...

Welcome to the site. I think you're attracting, deservedly, some pushback, perhaps you're not reading the room very well. This site has as members some of the biggest collectors, most knowledgable players, and longtime dealers and flippers of vintage hats. The majority of people that come here...

Allen Edmonds (really... are they good shoes?)

Most of the reported problems, customer complaints, and reviews center are based on a decrease in QC, stitching and sole finish issues. This might just be a result of increased overall sales and an internet review snowball effect. I'm in agreement that Rose Anvil often errs or had some...

    Akubra Overload

II've worn my Bushman in the rain for hours at a time on countless occasions, recently the sweatband started shrinking noticeably and also drying out somewhat. I have noticed that the Akubra sweats that have shrunk will dry out to their original size after soaking if worn until dry, so I...

    FS : '50s DUNLAP WESTLITE 7 ⅛ - Open Road style Fedora

Thanks guys, I'd be wearing to myself if it was a size smaller! For info the little dents showing when the crown is open can be easily steamed out, it never had a tight crease and is really in like new condition.

I'm loath to lower the price on this hat, as I know it will eventually find a buyer, but I've decided to open the sale up to reasonable offers - I'd rather someone wears this beautiful hat than it sitting in a box in my cupboard !

Allen Edmonds (really... are they good shoes?)

He is pretty transparent and gets it wrong at times. But for the most part he is correct and has become a force for good, educating consumers in an attempt at encouraging companies to maintain quality and think twice before cost cutting at the expense of quality. I'm a big fan of Alden but...

    Western, anyone?

I got tired of my dog's tail knocking my hats off a chair and needing to stack them haphazardly. After deciding against installing hat racks in my hallway, I ordered a cheap but decent knock-off of those classic old French bentwood coat and hat stands. It's big enough to hold all of my hats in...

Good to hear, thanks for the update. IME on forums and in my real personal and professional life, a lot of problems can be avoided by communication and managing expectations.
