    Western, anyone?

Isn't it weird, but understandable, how having certain professions or lifestyles give you societal 'permission,' to look the part ? I 'm in a local band here and have always dressed a bit differently than the norm, as much to please myself as anyone else, but people don't care, or appreciate...

    Western, anyone?

Great look, impeccably styled and worn with obvious confidence and flair, bravo!

    Akubra Overload

Yes. Personally I doubt they will cut quality, they have too many repeat and long time customers in Oz that wear their hards very hard, and it would become common knowledge quickly if quality fell off.

Keep it coming guys, very interesting stuff! I do know that the earliest trade in beaver pelts from N. America was to the Netherlands, by all accounts.

My Journey of attempting to transform an Akubra Cattleman into a Snowy River

I don't think you have to worry, most of them in Oz are worn way beyond resembling a Cattleman or any particular hat by the time they get retired.

The biblically themed first painting was by Pieter Coecke van Aelst I (1502-1550), Triptych with the Adoration of the Magi, about 1530-1540. The hats worn in the second were common from around 1640 on for around 30 years, I believe. Do you know the name and artist of the second one? I forgot to...

My Journey of attempting to transform an Akubra Cattleman into a Snowy River

My first Akubra was a Bran Cattleman, I wore it well for about a year before finding a nice used Snowy River, the older model with a thin ribbon, that I much preferred. I ended up giving it away to a friend as it ended up sitting unused as I had bought a few other hats in the interim that I...

Not far off, it was a closely related game called Tic Tac or Tick Tack, that was itself closely related to Trictrac that was popular in the French courts of the 17th century. Backgammon came about roughly 100 years later in England, apparently descended from a game called Irish at the time...

Thanks for the information, it's so interesting to me. As a Canadian we were taught about the fur trade and how intertwined our early history as a country was with it, but most of the information was centred around the supply side and little about the details about the actual European demand...

    Nothing new under the sun.

I saw an superb exhibition of Dutch Old Masters the other day, it was curated exceptionally well and the quality of the works on display was amazing, as was the condition of the paintings, the images leapt off of the wall and it felt as if I was dropped into the Netherlands in the mid 1500s...

    The Resistol Roundup

That Pendleton is a real beauty, are you only open to trades and not a sale ? I don't have anything that matches your description. If it's a true 7 I'd be very interested. The 20 is gorgeous, too. .

Fleurs De Bagne Le Falot Waxed Jacket, S, made in France (Halley Stevensons)

Hi Daniel, thanks for the offer. What are the measurements of the large size ? I'd need to think about it, I really don't need another waxed jacket right now, was actually glad it didn't fit because I'm too easily tempted. LOL.

Fleurs De Bagne Le Falot Waxed Jacket, S, made in France (Halley Stevensons)

That's gorgeous, but too small for me, GLWTS. For those less familiar with the brand they make excellent clothing, the attention to detail is great and the quality very high. One of my favourite chambray shirts is a refined version of a traditional workwear shirt, the cut is excellent.

Summer finally hit here a week ago, after a very rainy spring, now I'm mostly wearing La Sportiva leather hiking shoes and shorts in the heat, was actually happy to have some rain and cooler temperatures today so I could wear the Russells again. After a month's wear there's not much to report...

    Selfmade Kefir

Yes, so easy and so good. I found that the quality of the milk used massively affects the end result, mostly in reduction of bitterness. I use pasteurised milk, I'm lucky to live next to cheesemaker / shop that has excellent milk from nearby alpine pastures. Making your own yogurt the...

Here's a bit of an update, after a few day's wear and beautiful, long hike today over all kinds of terrain with a friend and her Husky joining me and my dog. One of things I was most curious about was if it would be tiring wearing a boot with so little lateral support and such a flexible sole...

Thanks, I've since added to it, I posted the pictures only at first by mistake and added on to the description afterwards. I think there was a need here for more practical information on these justly famous and unique boots and shoes that can really only be purchased in person, or ordered...
