I tend to stay around 2-1/2" brims, but I do have some bigger 3-1/2 to 3-1/2 brims too... they all have their place on the wall ( and on my head in sunny weather).
Picked up a bit bigger used pipe stand this week ( cool nautical ships wheel theme). Got the refinishing complete today. Came out decent, but I think it looks better full lol. So far the only issue is that some of the bigger pipes dont like to share space with a tobacco jar in the middle. No...
The new Featherweight brim behaves decently when its snapped down in front AND back. Centerdent behaves a lot better than trying to do a teardrop. I think im just going to brush some dust off and leave it alone.
Little bit of steaming, and this little thing is telling me it wants a center dent instead of a c crown, and it wants to snap down in front and in back.... do that and the brims is perfect. snap up in back and brim is all wonky,,, Swept don brim it is! Ive learned to watch what the hat tells...
I believe the both Salvation Army store in Perth AND the Goodwill Store in Sidney are both listing things on Ebay now. Ive seen several nice Akubra things (AND bought a few) from both that Id never seen over here. Always supposed they were either special orders for a particular store there or...
Mailman delivered another Champ Featherweight today.. My old one is more of an darker olive/ brown felt and olive ribbon... this ones is a lighter actual brown and brown ribbons. ( I was worried that they would turn out to be the same color....I didnt really need duplicates with my limited wall...
I swapped out a hatband on the Akubra Coobalah yesterday. Figured I wear it out and about today and see how it looks in the daylight. The original crocodile hatband was kind of lopsided ( 1" tall on one side and 1/2" on the other), so it had to go... I salvaged this nice feathered band off of a...
if anyone is interested, there is a really nice looking rare LIGHT GREY Akubra Bogart on ebay right now. Id be all over this one but its too small ( I once stretched a 57 Black Bogart up to my headsize ( in between 7-1/4 and 7-3/8) it turned out well, but it was a long arduous process I really...
Once again I'm impressed with used hats out of Australia! They evidently don't trash their hats like Americans do. Got here reasonable quick, well packed with ZERO packing peanuts lol! This thing is beautiful! Really nice green, super soft smooth felt (thin firm but soft dress weight felt) ...
Excellant info! Ive got a couple of older Akubras. A Little Brown Metropolitan with the triple row stitching on the brim has always been one of my favorites. I am usually fond of ALL Akubra things, but Im particularly fond of some of the older "Town:" hats that rarely seem to make over here to...
Thought one the Stetson Temples looked lonely this morning (Sovereign in Sage). For a more modern hat, most of my Temples are surprisingly soft and smooth. Really comfortable hats
And now the Sweatband is sewn back in, the ribbon tacked in, and liner is back inside where it belongs. Its a complete wearable hat again! One just needs to remember where it started, and the remaining warts dont seem so bad (either that or dont scrutinize underneath it too closely lol)...
A new life begins.... the battered Gay Prince gets its first public trip (post rehab) today! Moral of the story is never give up ... everything still has potential.. Always show your $15 hats some love- they usually return the favor nicely.
I didn't really point it out yesterday, but if you...
its just a Singer 4452 I originally bought it to sew light suedes and leather. Figured it work for felt too. My big leather machine(Cobra Class 4) just cant do the smaller needles and thread so I picked up this Singer
