It was all dust covered and silverbelly looking when I got it in. It had lots of staining so I removed the liner and sweat and did a white gas bath... Absolutely blew my mind when it got clean and the colors popped out! I was thrilled for a $50 hat. Sweat and liner cleaned up nicely. Its a...
Nice visit from the mailman today.... Got a new ebay brim flange and hatblock in today. Wood is in fabulous condition... both are 7-1/4. I evidently made the only bid and got the pair for $23! Ill try the fedora hat block out on a couple lesser hats Ive got here and see how it works. The...
Its definately unusual... Hat felt is actually a greenish tint and the ribbon and binding have a rose colored tint. Its a nice change from silverbelly. I LOVE abnormal hats lol. There is some fading on the ribbon, and Ive already decided that if ever necessary, Ill replace with a new rose...
A Goat farmer , pipe smoking buddy of mine ( I have an interesting collection of friends) brought me a big box of different pipe tobaccos to try... If I counted right there were 16 different blends... everything from Aromatics to spices. Should take me a couple weeks to try them all. Paring...
Excellent... Thanks! I took a chance on a nice green Akubra "East Coast" in Austrailia.. It was too tempting to pass up... Now I can relax knowing it will probably fit lol... Should be somewhere over the Pacific by now
I agree that most of the time an Akubra 59 fits me the same as most Stetson 58/ 7-1/4 (Im also in between 58 and 59)
The Akubra hat in question is only marked as 7-1/4 ( no cm size)... my question is ... is an Austrailian 7-1/4 the same as a US 7-1/4? (or is it like a European size 7-1/4)
Im a bit skeptical of a 1950s date too, but one never knows... Ive found more than one hat coming directly out of OZ that Ive not see over here, and some looked like they were new/ old stock and were in OLD boxes
Got another keeper in today! Its some flavor of "Akubra exclusive for Outback Trading Company" hat. Cant make out all the embossing on the front, but I can almost make out "Sidney- something, and the number 1975 below it. Not sure if thats the year or a model name. So if anyone knows what it...
Picked this little gem up on ebay yesterday all the way from Down Under. Marked as an "East Coast" model. Nice dark green Imperial fur, Bound edge 2" brim. Over time Ive found more than a few Akubras in Austrailia from either ebay or the Salvation Army store. Have found some nice hats that...
Nice hat... I agree about cutting the clear liner out... here in east texas, its just way too warm for a plastic lining... that and when they get old they have an irritating crinkle sound effect... Ive removed almost all the liners in my older hats (except for a few that actually had the logo...
Ive got a couple of brim cutters (M&F brand in 1/8" and 1/2") Theyre pretty easy to make a neat cut, even if steering around a damaged edge. They have a curved slot that the brim edge rides nicely in. ( as long as it not a bound edge... they can be a bit snug in the slot) Basically slide the...
Seems Ive bumped in to somthing "Akubra" several times today.. Got to thinking I havent worn the old Stockman in a while... so on the head it goes!
This one had a couple rough spots on the brim edge when I picked it up... I trimmed it down to a 2-1/2" brim... Suits my sensibilities better than...
Curious if an older Akubra that is marked as 7-1/4 is the same or different than a US 7-1/4? ( the one I noticed did not have any cm size marking) It always seemed to me that an Akubra 59 was in between a Stetson 7-1/4// 7-3/8 for fit on my noggin
