I see some hats referred to as having a dimensional brim which implies that the opposite must also be true and that's not possible.
What exactly is that a reference to?
Interesting. I'll be flying about 10k miles next week and I guess that means I should not bring my hat.
On another note, what do you call this measuring device?
I see that smashable wool fedoras don’t have many fans here and some of the responses led me to believe that wool was the weak link.
Does the same apply to a rabbit packable hat...
I will do that! It does seem to have a style that's at the confluence of outback > western > fedora > casual that defies convention. JJ Hat Store apparently bought them as an in-store special and called it their New York Limited Edition. Somehow that doesn't help categorize the style...
Gentlemen... I very much appreciate all the input and expertise you've shared w/ me; genuinely so.
Due largely to the help you've provided I've made what I suspect will be the first of several hat purchases. Just to toss it out there I don't consider myself to be a delicate little flower and...
I shave my head and have for years. I'll share a story here that might not be for everyone.
My wife and I occasionally entertain at our house and have at times had more than 100 guests at a time. The bigger parties are more fun because you never get trapped by that one nutbar spouse you might...
That seems completely reasonable to me. Any idea what might cause that sort of damage to the liner or have you seen anything like it before on a relatively new hat?
Any idea what a reasonable offer might be?
...or what it might cost to have a hat shop put a fresh liner in?
Thanks again to all for the help. I have another pesky question please. There's a hat f/sale on FleaBay that may not fit the full spirit of a typical fedora but that might be a little easier for my chicken self to get used to as a first real hat. To my eye it's a crossover between a western...
This is turning out a little differently than I expected. Apparently 7-5/8 heads are either less common or they don’t wear hats as often. FleaBay is full of hats in some sizes but not so much when you hit 7-5/8.
If you are the same size and have a versatile fedora that isn’t getting much...
It is good to hear the unanimous downvote for wool. The cost difference is huge and the temptation is real. Thanks for the explanation as well. I never would've guessed.
How about that tan Stetson Royale? What is your asking price and can you confirm that the hat is 7-5/8? The box it's sitting on has a label that says 7-3/8. Thanks.
61cm... 23-7/8"... US 7-5/8
Off and running!
And Randy... your pics and similar are what have brought me to this point. I can't imagine that I might have what it takes to sport hats like that but I definitely enjoy seeing others that do. Baby steps. Maybe I'll get there!
Nathan; thanks.
Not much has been obvious to me so far. Fairly baffling, really.
Forty five years ago I had a leather cowboy hat. It fit like a frying pan and I never did like it. Somewhere around 25 years ago I bought a VERY thick wool cowboy looking hat; I think it was made by Filson. When I bought it...
I've read a ton of your posts and marveled at your lovely wife's skill. Unless it's an old comment I ran across as I was mining the Hat forum I understand she may be recuperating. Please let her know that some guy with an objectionable logon name on the other side of the world has had her in...
Nice! Thank you all!
Tonight I'll be much better informed as I float through different milliner sites looking to understand a little more. If there's one thing that seems interesting to me but not so easy to articulate it would be that there's a significant transition in this step. A man can...
I've read the first 20 pages of threads in the Hat forum and searched around for a sort of general noob tutorial and haven't found one. I see bits of helpful info buried in monstrous threads but nothing intended to show generally how to make the transition for a heretofore non fedora wearer.
I...
Not taking care of your boots such that they can look like you wore them to perform work that you didn't actually do is a curious goal.
Always take good care of your stuff.
