Hi Jimmy - no problem at all, happy to help! I am still on the same journey myself but have picked up a fair bit of experience with various Aero models and sizing along the way now, so if that is of use to others on FL so much the better. The patterns make a lot of difference and some work...
That sounds amazing Marc - that racing green sheepskin is one of the very best hides I have ever encountered anywhere - and it will look really classy on the Cyclone - a great combo and I look forward to seeing your posts on delivery!
Yes - that is exactly the process - after making the payment you just ping them your measurements and they will take it from there. The otr options are either via the physical London (or Osako) shop or their bay shop (the latter seem to be slight factory seconds at a reduced price?).
Hi Jimmy - there is also a dedicated FL Outerwear thread on the Aero J106 aka Ridley aka Slim MC jacket that you might find useful, as there are quite a few variants out there now as this model allows for lots of tinkering with the base model, from the great D-pocket classic of Mr Proper to...
I would certainly recommend getting LL tailored to fit tbh - they do an amazing job and the second hand market is a bit of a lottery - they still tend to fetch pretty high prices (sone of them ridiculously high) but some of the jackets from the 80s for instance took a bit of a dive in quality...
Good point wrt the handwarmers - it doesnt seem to match exactly with any of their current line up and seems to have elements of their different jackets - I think the Memphis is the closest overall, but maybe this is some kind of prototype before they released the current version?
No - it is not the same as the standard vegtan sheep (the one that I have) - I have not seen the Rutland sheep up close but it is an option they offer on request but only in black I believe, and it is a smoother (and maybe slightly thicker?) grain than the standard offering. Others in FL might...
Their sheep is actually thicker than their standard HH - it is nothing like lambskin and is a fantastic hide - the green Super Phantom I have in it is my most comfortable jacket to date and it was like that straight out of the box.
Ah - I see now with a closer look at the rippling of the hide this is the vegtan sheep not vegtan cow - both are great and the former has a lovely soft hand from the get-go, with zero break-in needed. Are you planning on making the jump from ovine to bovine next?M
Vanson Mercury (essentially a Comet with a collar) - old comp weight - this is a really thick but supple hide with a lovely gnarly grain coming through - surprisingly comfortable for its weight - like Lewis Leathers they do an amazing job of making jackets that fit really well, so that it...
In terms of thickness I agree with Carlos that 1/4” seems a bit too thin, and it would lack the full luxuriousness of the thicker piles - I would certainly aim for 1/2” and upwards - and that 3/4” curly LW fleece that Carlos has is absolutely stunning! The grey and navy options would be really...
Apologies for duplicating these photos from elsewhere on TFL, but I thought they might help - these are of my Aero Slimfit MC jackets, one in dark blue vicenza with a black mouton collar, the other is in black badalassi with an Irvin mouton collar. I particularly like the latter one as I think...
