Tomorrow I will try to take few shots of the green sheep SP next to a vintage black Monza I have from the 70s in cowhide, if the light outside is suitable - hopefully that will help for comparison if I post them here?
You can't go wrong with either of those - tossing a coin is probably your best option! I nearly went with the green for my Dominator but opted for the vegecow in black in the end as I already had the Super Phantom in green, but it was a close call. I have seen both Dominators and Lightnings in...
Fantastic! You can see in those shots just how much the zip tape colour alters the overall look of the jacket - the beige version gives it a more vintage flavour, whereas the black is more edgy to my mind. Both are great either way….probably best to get one of each, just to be sure
Ps - they won't do the Dominator without the handwarmers - as others have said they are v protective of their legacy, so won't stray too far away from the base patterns. You could always go for an option with the zipped handwarmers - I think the green with the beige zip tape would be great -...
The green is indeed v dark - its a classic British racing green, as seen on the old Aston Martins, Mini Coopers, E-type jags etc - think something along these lines https://www.ronsusser.com/inventory/listing/1967-jaguar-e-type-roadster-green-metallic-fully-restored-gorgeous-series-1/
Something that I think folk on here may find is worth a try is Fiebing's Carnauba Creme, which I have used to give some extra protection to my vegtan jackets in particular - it gives a really nice sheen after a good buffing and adds depth to the colour imo - hard to show in photos but well worth...
I just spotted a LL Star Lightning (Lightning but with shoulder and arm pads) up on ebay with 5d to go and no bids yet and a sensible starting price - not my size, but looks to be in great condition and my guess is its sheep from the late 70s, as it clearly has that distinctive rippled grain and...
Of course you could opt for the vegecow for the best of both worlds…black, THEN brown! I have a Super Monza in mind for a future purchase in the black vegecow, as I think the diamond padding in particular will age really nicely as the brown teacore starts showing through…..for the sheep I think...
As Edward says, Lock are v good for offering a wider colour range in traditional styles, such as the Homburg, which has v limited usefulness in the most typical black colour as it makes it overly formal imo for more everyday use. The fawn Homburg I bought from them this year is v nice, but my...
You should probably check out their Premier range in that case - they are a nice slim 30s fit with high armholes, but not as extremely fitted as the Boardracer, which is probably the most close fitting of all their patterns. Check the shoulder width though as these can be a bit narrow if you...
Looks great - and I think the length is bang on for this style tbh - the sheep is unique as you say, and it doesnt really compare to any other hides I have handled either - nice work!!
I would say these days it is just a matter of personal preference and aesthetics since very few of us will wear these jackets for their original purpose anyway - riding, flying or manual labour. Also, even back in the day for these original purposes the most practical sleeve length would vary...
I would certainly test it thoroughly on a swatch first tbh, as you could end up with a very deep and pretty much permanent brown tan line on your neck !
