DEATHS ; Notable Passings; The Thread to Pay Last Respects

My favourite is Bob as the psychologist in ..."Just Stop It". Whenever my wife mentions her desire for counselling I suggest she save her money and watch Bob's short video.

You know you are getting old when:

Watching the SF Giants play the Blue Jays last week and a Mike Yastrzemski comes to bat. I think, hey that must be Carl's kid........only to find out he is in fact his grand kid and he is in his mid 30's....not a kid.

    Hat making?? Learning Millinery..

It works well. I used it to imprint the sublimation transfers onto my liners. That entails holding a hot, dry iron for one minute. That produced a hairline crack in the counter top. I plan to get a new one but am lazy and have not bothered to trek down the street to the installer. With a...

    Hat making?? Learning Millinery..

At first I used a thick wooden cutting board purchased at Ikea. It worked well but eventually stained from the dye leaking from dark felts. I then went to a local quartz countertop installer and he let me rummage through his pile of cuttings and I picked out a large on,...no charge as it is...

A few words of caution based on my missteps in buying vintage on Ebay. Firstly, the hat is not a derby/bowler as the brim treatment is wrong. Black hats are not popular and generally go for a lower price. Have patience, browse to get a feel for pricing. Be selective, don't fear putting in...

Yes, many of the largest collectors here in the Lounge don't use the Lounge to sell. They use Ebay.

    Bourbon Discussion Thread

We travelled for 17 days in TN, NC and KY so the 5 days in Lexington only allowed us to scratch the surface of the whiskey offerings. We attempted to visit Buffalo Trace the day spent in Frankfort but it was like a Black Friday at the Mall even though it was a Thursday noon in September. The...

    Bourbon Discussion Thread

I have long been a whisky person, not bothering to investigate the bourbon world. My trip to Kentucky was a real eye opener to an entire new world. There are some very exciting bourbons being made in them parts. I am now torn between another trip to Scotland or delay that for a further...

    Bourbon Discussion Thread

I was in a bourbon tasting bar in Kentucky back in September. I spent so much money the owner gifted me an autographed copy of the 2023 Whisky Bible......the only thought I had at the time was I better up my drinking or I shall never even make a dent in the wide world of whisk(e)y.

    Hat making?? Learning Millinery..

I write a monthly column in HaTalk eMagazine. Each month I cover a step in the hat making process (started last Sept or October). A subscription costs $5 per month and all the back issues are archived and available. In the next few months I will complete the series. Also, in the next 4...

The 3D printed one is more substantial/sturdy but they both work well. Acrylic is about $200+ the 3D printed is around $300.

This is my first one made from an acrylic plastic. The 3D printed one works the same. It creates a template of the head's shape I then make a tracing on a white sheet of paper. The inner piece to which you refer is a 'formillion' and is not needed.

    Hat making?? Learning Millinery..

My low point was sewing my finger to a hat.....while hand sewing!!! The stitch went through a callous on my finger so did not feel it. I did notice it when I set the hat down and it followed me out of the room.

If you are flying...note that fedoras do not travel well. Perhaps a flat cap/newsboy would be a better travel choice. But wear what is comfortable, and what best suits the activity and weather.

    Hat making?? Learning Millinery..

Yes, My wrinkle is my baste stitches are close together 1/4" to 3/8" or so....in the channel just under the reed..."stitch in the ditch". I used to make much longer baste stitches but not happy with the result so I went smaller. I now leave this baste stitch in and then double stitch it...
