I find it interesting how orders come in waves. After not making a Bowler in over 2 years I have been commissioned to make 3 in the last month. First a brown, then a purple and yesterday my customer picked up his retirement gift to himself....a traditional black. Felt is Usst (Ukraine)...
It is looking like Petersham ribbon as it appears to have the scalloped edges. Men's hatting ribbon has a straight woven edge. Both are called grosgrain but Petersham is generally used by milliners on hats for women. The woven edge is used on men's hats.
The one big thing we have learned in our 50 years together is that my wife are 'home' where ever we are. I guess we are like turtles, we carry our home on our back or at least with it. We are natural 'nesters', recreating home wherever we happen to be, in whatever living situation we happen...
The first time we visited Winthrop, Twisp, and the Methow Valley was just as day trips. I would take my wife on mystery road trips for the day. This first time was to Winthrop for an ice cream cone, then back home. Lovely little town.
From 2014 to late 2019 we toured the US west in our motorhome. Everything to the west of the spiral binding on our Rand McNally.
Well we missed Nebraska and Kansas...(tornado season!)
We stayed out of 'cities'....anything over 50,000 people was too big for us. The list of places we fell in...
RA uses the inferior grade PLA plastic in his blocks and that filament is prone to shrinkage over time. Be cautious. as PLA has very low resistance to heat.
I am old enough to have been around in the 1970's and I can say for sure your comments are valid. I owned two of them.....shiny and plastic like would describe them
Never having worked in the industry I have no idea but I think it safe to assume so. All the movie work up here is through the various unions. If I remember correctly they chose Vancouver as Altman wanted that dark, rainy, wet appearance for the look of the film.
one of the first movies shot up here in Vancouver.....later to become "Hollywood North". It was a great movie where many of my underemployed actor friends got well paying gigs!
A good leather cleaner and then a conditioner to soften. Put the hat jack into the hat but just until it is taut not tight. If you attempt to stretch it in its dry state you risk tearing it. If it is a cheap hat/cheap leather (i.e. "genuine" or reconstituted leather) you may not be able to...
I have limited experience but with two that I have owned (purchased used) ...the wire seems to have a mind of its own. The wire seems to have a memory and even after much coaxing wants to revert.
If you are on a tight budget probably your best bang for the buck is to buy 3D printed blocks and flanges. Check out WalshDesign3D on Etsy.com He makes great items at great prices. As well he uses higher grade filament than most other 3D printers. Millinery Whse has a few vintage wooden...
Do some research, and your price will be then based on actuals. You increase your chances of selling if the price reflects the market. Sometimes selling things requires a little bit of work on the part of the seller. But $400 is a start and now you can gauge the response.
Check the Classified ads here to get an idea. Use the Google search "Fedora Lounge, Borsalino" or check the history of Borsa sales on Ebay. This will give you a range. Without it stating its beaver content the provenance/quality of the hat could be suspect. Or attach a price and see if...
