How Many Flat Caps is Too Many?

I have but a dozen, most are tweed, custom made by AmiCharnel (alas he has passed away). But as we still have sun here they are packed away for another month or so.

Repair Advice Needed! Texas Sun on a Vintage 3X.

As a hat restorer I would say there is no way coming back from that level of damage. Cheap composite leather reacts that badly to heat and steam. If you are willing you can pick up a new leather sweat, get the supplier to cut it to the desired size. Then you just need to stitch back into...

    Contemporary Debate

I have a 'live and let live' perspective. A choice to wear PJ's is not one I would make but if it works for the wearer...who am I to speak against it. Life has too many other more serious vexations so I am discerning as to what I choose to bother me.

    The Calendar Is Ticking

We have a new(ish) faciliity opened here called "Dementia Village"...weird name. It is a facility, like a small village with shops and services, secure grounds where the patients are allowed free run of the 'village'. It is a wonderful place. The downside is the $8 to $11K per month cost...

    The Calendar Is Ticking

to an extent, as it depends on the type of dementia. With my sisters type of dementia/memory loss, it affected short term memory including the memory of how to eat, how to swallow, how to walk, sit up straight......etc etc.

    The Calendar Is Ticking

I know you can get tested for the gene that predisposes one to dementia but I don't wanna know. My buddy's symptoms started in his mid 50's and his wife late 60's. Life's crap shoot.

    The Calendar Is Ticking

My older sister (3 years older at 78) just died, complications of vascular dementia which she had been dealing with for 8 years. The worst phase was the first 4 years when she was aware of what was happening, aware of what the future held for her, it was having the experience of witnessing...

Searching for Fitted Hat Suppliers in the USA

You need to be more specific; style, price point, fur felt or?, Will you be selling to end users and want a factory or are you a retailer looking for a distributor? If low end is what you are after have you checked out China? Lots of suppliers there of low end hats.

Parcels wrapped & tied with string.

I think that piece is Coltrane's best work. Just as Sketches of Spain is Miles Davis best. Never, ever tire of it.

    Sewing in a Smaller Sweatband?

Well, it is either that or buy a right sized block, strip the hat down, reblock and remake the hat. I always ask.....what is there to lose in the attempt? What is the downside of trying? This is not theory. I am a custom hat maker and this is a technique that I use often.

    Sewing in a Smaller Sweatband?

As a hobbyist and now a full custom hat maker I have found that, in general, doing workarounds or shortcutting a solution, never ends up fully satisfactorily. There will be a gap between the new/smaller sweat as the felt will be too large to accommodate it. In the sewing you will hve to find...

    On Retirement And Hats

My wife and I have found a great gig.....My niece and nephew have two children each and in the past few years have been doing fill-in grandparenting duty. It is a great job......we get to enjoy their wonderful children, our only role to mind them, keep them safe, stop them from burning the...

Have any of your sports interest revived in recent years?

I saw Borussia M play here in the early 1980's. They were my favourite team for a while. But I don;t follow soccer much now, other than the Euros or the Mondiale.

Have any of your sports interest revived in recent years?

I have maintained my life long love of baseball. We have a High A team in Vancouver but I boycott them ever since they confiscated my bag of pistachios after frisking me on entry. In doing this they force you to buy their overpriced food.....2 beer, 2 hot dogs = $40. Last year we...

    On Retirement And Hats

My retirement was brief. My hatting 'hobby' has morphed into a full time business that I work 5 to 6 days a week. Our interest in travel has waned and post Covid we have not returned to it save for a two week vacation each year. We sold our motorhome and having travelled the world in our...

    Wolfbrae Custom Hatters

It has been a productive week. Here are 3 hats picked up on Friday by my best lady client. First hat is a dark grey, Winchester rabbit, open crown just under 5", brim at 3 1/2". Brim is turned down at the front and back, flat on the sides. All 3 hats are trimmed with vintage silk blend...

Ask a question, get an answer

Yes, postage to Europe is def an impediment. There is a wide range of prices in the custom hat field. Northwest Hats in Oregon is holding steady at $325 for a top quality rabbit felt. Mike at NWHats is a Master Hatter. Hornskov and Hufvud, (Denmark & Sweden) are considerably higher in price.

Ask a question, get an answer

Understood. I misunderstood his question as I thought he was asking for information on the specific hat not the hat store. I think we are pretty much all adults here and there was nothing in my post to offend anyone. He can either take my information or leave it. And he would have to...
