I enjoyed your use of the word "indestructible', the ATX is built the same way. Metal to metal threaded section, makes my Pelikans and Lamy look like Michael Jackson compared to Evander Holyfield.
John has a very good point about the 409. If you have a vintage pen with the original sac or filling system, the 409 may damage them. Stick with the ammonia. If, however, it has been restored with silicone sac or rings, the 409 should be okay.
I'm certainly no expert, just a fellow enthusiast. If you have a balky pen, Sheaffer's new Skrip Black from Slovenia has worked very well in every pen I;ve ever tried it in. Not as dark as Aurora's but just a good, solid reliable ink.

John I recently picked up some Private Reserve American Blue, while not a permanent ink like Legal Lapis it is an intense, vibrant blue that is a beautiful color. If you are looking for a well behaved, very pretty blue, it would be one to consider.
How about shaving soap and brushes. VDH Deluxe Shaving soap is still a very good choice [I use it regularly]. Also Clubman Aftershave can still be found at the beauty supply houses, yup, the stuff the barber used when we were kids. Also good old Gillette razors can still be stocked with good...

Found a nice combination for Church use in highlighting ny Bible. Conway Stewart Green loaded in a Reform 1745 Piston filler. A nice fine line with a very well behaved ink.
