Negatory on that, good buddy. That would require a drill, and it's not my property to drill into. It's strong double-sided tape, and I swabbed both surfaces down with alcohol before hanging it; trust me, it's not going anywhere until I decide to remove it. ;)
That brings up a good question...
Biltmore Pork Pie
Not really wearing it because my I'm indoors, and anyway, my work has a (not really enforced) rule that hats can't be worn in the building except for religious reasons. Which is as it should be. There's nowhere to hang a hat, so I improvised one with a coat hook from Target...
I think you might be right. Under the sweatband there's a sticker with dot matrix numbers printed on it. I'm no expert, obviously, and I knew Bernie Utz has been around since the 40's, so I was hoping it was quite a bit older. Oh well, live and learn.[huh]
Stetson "The Sovereign" Homburg
Wore my new Stetson homburg that I got from Mr. Lucky on OFAS. 7 3/4 and a near perfect fit. It felt right at home on my head right away.
Stetson "The Sovereign" Homburg
Stetson Homburg I got from Mr. Lucky. This is after an intensive cleaning and refurbishing (I gave it a good once over with a horsehair brush). I'm considering giving it a bash to make it my own, but I like the front pinch and center crease that it came with...
I'd guess 50's, but that's just a guess. The liner's seen better days, but that is a nice looking hat.
EDIT: I take that back, the liner looks OK. I was looking at the low res image on my iPhone. The color of what looks like a plastic protector made me think it was really sweat-stained.
Here ya go.
I like the nice amber lacquered tone to the straw. You see a lot of boaters that they want $125 for online, and they just have that bleached straw look to them that, although they may be well made, makes them look too similar to those styrofoam campaign hats.
The leather...
Both. I'm a 7 3/4 LO, but I had heard of others buying a size smaller because of the low crown, so I considered getting a 7 5/8, but stuck with 7 3/4 because of the long oval thing and my fear that it would be too small.
I'll take a couple of pics before I ship it back.
Well, I think I have the answer for you, Ernest. I got my Olney boater in size 7 3/4 (US) today, and it turned out to be quite a bit too large.:eusa_doh: My head feels like it's swimming in it, actually, with room on the front, back and sides. I've considered getting some sizing strips, but...
Stetson Sovereign Homburg
Just got it from Mr. Lucky off OFAS. Size 7 3/4, and the fit is near perfect. Instantly comfortable on my noggin. I like the fact that it's fairly casual looking for a homburg. Not my pic, this is from the auction, but it's been a long day and the in-laws are...
A homburg is definitely the type of hat I could see Holmes wearing, although I'm not sure if he ever did. What was he wearing in the movie, a bowler? I haven't seen it yet, although I want to. When the movie came out I was kind of ticked off that Downey Jr. wasn't wearing a deerstalker cap...
You could trim the brim and sandpaper the edge and spray on hat stiffener to make up for the floppiness caused by the lack of a wire in the brim (LiteFelt is very floppy in my experience), but frankly, I wouldn't bother with it. I would get a hat that you're happy with and that fits you without...
