It would be true of the 3-piece back if it was just three pieces of leather sewn together, but it is pleated so there is extra work to make that back. Very nice detail BTW!
Actually, the extra pieces of leather means they can take smaller cuts of leather and just sew them together instead of having to use one larger piece to make the jacket. So this would be a cheaper way to make a jacket!
The one thing I never liked about the repo's was the large oversized collar. The original ones had smaller sized (and G-1's more rounded @-the point) collars. I have a Cockpit Vintage G-1 that looks much more accurate to the originals than most of the more so-called better/High-End jackets!
I have the Russet goat and it has really nice grain, is light-weight and really durable, a little stiff (but nothing compared to FQHH) and is a great hide. I'm sure you will be happy with yours also!
This jacket runs a little small. Iam 5'7" and 165Lbs and have a size 44. I always wear a sweater or sweat-shirt under it and it fits me really well. Whatever your suit size is, I would order one size up unless you want a tight fit!
I have just the opposite problem. I always have to get them shortened to fit right! Have an Aero 30's HB ordered w/23.5" sleeve length. Nice to get one I wont have to get tailored!
I ordered a HB with the Waterfront wool pattern(Alpaca lined) and got it in about eight weeks. I have a 2-tone 30's HB ordered in mid August and hope to get it soon!
