The comments thing for me is kinda strange and unexpected. It never occurred to me when I started wearing westerns full time that people on the street would say anything at all or even notice but they do. Mostly women, sometimes 3 or 4 in less than an hour will say something like "nice hat" and...
My SB Stetson went for a flight today and blew along some muddy grass - cleaned up just fine with one of those sticky lint rollers. I'll have to get some proper hat brushes and cleaners sometime though.
This is my truck. There are many like it but this one is mine. Not the greatest for wearing a wide brim western hat in though as the headrest angles forward and hits the brim pretty good.
The wide brim hat that you have in your avatar works well - you could wear that one anywhere IMO.
I'm 6'3" as well and I'm presently living in an area where western style hats are somewhat rare but I wear a standard cattleman SB anywhere and any time I feel like it which is pretty much...
Well I'm very new to all this but I've found from trying different manufactures in shops that hat sizes are all over the place.
Both my Stetsons are 7&5/8 and they fit about the same out of the box. I then pad the sweatband to tighten the fit a little and shape the whole rig to my head.
I...
Went to the store that I was talking about - big place, all kinds of clothes and boots and such.
Learned a few things so it was worth the trip.
1. Black or brown hats are not for me.
2. Tried a few Akubras and the 3" brim doesn't work for me plus I didn't like the light weight felt all that...
I didn't think of ebay - I've never dealt with them before.
Found a place about an hour north of where I live sells Akubras many of which seem to be around 3". Might go there and try a few on would give me some idea about the smaller brim.
I've been wondering about trying a narrower brim. I was considering this 4X Stetson in SB with a 3" brim. Cost is $190.
I can get this Stetson 10X in SB for $225 which is a good price from what I've seen. I like this style and feel comfortable wearing it but I already have a similar hat in 4X...
Same here. I'm not even sure about going as narrow as a 3" brim. I'm comfortable wearing a 4" brim cattleman SB with anything from jeans and a t-shirt to a dark blue pin-stripe business suit.
Been looking at a Stetson Range in SB which is basically just a cattleman with a 3" brim but I don't...
Thankfully, we don't have to wear the wig in Canada. Robe takes bit of getting used to though as you have to be careful that it's not caught on something when you stand up. Can be a bit hot at times but during the summer the Court of Appeal relaxes its requirement that counsel be gowned.
Usually I have to wear a black robe when I'm in court and that's just not going to work with one of my 4" brim cattleman hats...lol
I was considering an HD28 for awhile and tried a V neck which I didn't find too comfortable. Might look for a used HD28 that's been played in a bit but for now...
I've been thinking about this Akubra as a beater for bad weather days because it's about half the price of my Stetson and that includes shipping from Oz. Not sold on it yet though as I prefer a cattleman crease.
It may not be you or the camera.
Some materials take on a very different color when photographed; so much so that in the film days it was common practice in advertising photography to send a few test shots to the lab to try and get it filtered properly for the final shoot.
Felt seems to be...
That show ran all day over the Christmas holidays and I did happen to see the one you're talking about - I figured the hat had to be fake just based on the really small size - very unlikely it would have fitted Wayne.
Never seen the show before - some of it was quite interesting.
Just this one taken on a dirt road back in September with a straw hat instead of the felt one I'm wearing these days. I've tried smaller brims in hat shops but I'm fairly tall so a 4" brim western seems to be about right for me.
