The best and worst vehicles for the hat wearer

It looks like a Ford Flex would have a lot of head room but let me tell you that my wife's Pacifica has to be one of the worst vehicle's for a person wearing a hat. Unless you contort your body you will hit your hat on the way in and after your in you will continue to bang it all over the inside.
I drive a Honda Accord and it is alright as long as your careful on the way in. I was just thinking as a hat wearer that I may take into account how friendly a car is to my hat when I buy my next car.

The Chrysler PT Cruiser is a good car for hat wearers -- particularly in the back seat, where the roof is higher.

My Mazda 323... not so much.

There's a particular model of Volvo is good for hat room. Can't remember the model name, but it's almost the only car you see in part of North London which is very heavily dominated by the Hassidic Jewish community - probably the only folks outside this place for whom headroom for hats matters when buying a car.

Surprisingly, my '02 Hyundai Sonata works well with my fedora. Only problem is the high back seat doesn't leave a lot of clearance for the back of the brim, but if I tilt the seat back one notch it seems to work fine.

My Mazda Miata is a lousy hat car, top down or up .
My Chevy Astro Van has lot of hat room.

My MINI Cooper was fantastic for hat (fedora) room. Lots of space. My Honda Civic handles my hats, as well. No ceiling bumping. My '03 Monte Carlo was terrible. My head hit the ceiling in a baseball cap.

Honda Element. I'm 6'5" with no hat on, and I can wear a hat in mine. This was actually a deciding factor in getting my first one several years ago. Once you get over the fact that you're driving what looks like a big toaster, pretty great vehicle all-around. I'm on my second one, but understand Honda will not be producing any more, according to local dealers. Supposedly it's not a money maker at that price point. Worst 2 so far: my wife's Jeep Liberty, followed by her more recent Scion tC, a sporty little thing, but I had to recline to almost prone to drive it. Frank

+1. I'm only 5'8", but the Element works well for my hats also. I'm sorry they won't be making them again!

It's not just the headroom, but it's also the headrest. Banging the back of the brim on the headrest causes the front of the hat to move either up or down on my face. This is especially a problem while wearing a western. I've found that in our VW it's not a problem, but in the Mercedes it's even difficult to wear a fedora with the back snapped up.

This is my truck. There are many like it but this one is mine. Not the greatest for wearing a wide brim western hat in though as the headrest angles forward and hits the brim pretty good.

My 911 Targa is a good car for hats, once you get in. Top on or off the hat is comfortable. The only problem i encounter is the headrest, but I find that with any car

I'm 5'10". The vehicles I have tried to wear hats in are a Subaru Legacy, a mid-90s Grand Cherokee, a newish Smart Fourtwo, and a new Ford Focus. Of these four, only the Jeep and the Ford were able to pass the "Federation Test," meaning I could wear my Fed comfortably without headliner or headrest contact. The others? If I slouch, I can barely fit my Stetson Saxon in the Subaru. The dash or other seat is a hat rack for trips in the Smart.
