I think this is something that anyone who dons an article of clothing that is "outside" the norm faces. Fedoras especially since they are considered a fashion accessory and subject to the scrutiny of those who judge the wearer as a person by the clothes they wear. Which is something I've always...
Thanks fellas..
but measuring either way is the problem..if you try it you will get a different measure from either method. The sweat is behind the felt so if go from the sweat to the outside edge you will get a different number that if you went from the top base of the ribbon to the outside...
Substance Use has it's place in normative behavior. Society though has boundary issues. There are strong and influential attitudes that don't respect boundaries and these influences exponentially reach out into all aspects of behavior. So children learn how to just self indulge to unbelievable...
I love Amy's stuf. She's a throwback in the best sense of the style. Sadly the using can be a hazard of the creative process and bad mentoring. There's no point in going down the list of artists that have gone by the bottle or the needle. So though much of the use and public image might be hype...
This is a gorgeous coat Vintage Betty. The Addis Company was the place to shop in Syracuse until it closed in the 70's. I think the Addis building still has the old name on the side, peeling paint and all. I used to shop there with my Grandmother..Actually we would go there to buy cashews for the...
Spellflower "Why would you NOT replace the ribbon? I guess there is something to be said for keeping an old thing as intact and authentic as possible. However, I think a hat that nice deserves a ribbon that compliments it, whreas the stained ribbon detracts. As for matching the bound edge...
Nice looking hat anyway..but I personally would be skeptical of the "sueded" finish... It looks great in the ad but buying it blindly based on the ad alone is taking a bigger chance than usual.....
At first this hat seemed an anomaly. I had always thought that Cowboy Logo to be a 70's thing at least. The sweatband and hang tag though both looked 40's and those 2 things seem more date exclusive as to when they were used so I would think 1940's is not far off
Nice hat.....
I would have to agree with just about everything I've read except I would be careful with any means that shrink the materials . You can shrink a sweat and also the felt but in so doing usually the ribbon does not shrink accordingly. You can end up with a ribbon with wrinkles and spaces between...
Maybe if anyone here is in the illuminati or maybe a Princeton club or the old skull and bones on casual dress day....
The prices are just foolish regardless of how tasty the ads are..
If anyone here has the kind of scratch to afford the goods on that site ..hats off to ya brother.....
I envy guys that can sew.. One of my sons just recently did the window treatments ( e.g frilly things that hang over the curtains :eusa_doh: ) and the pillow cases for his new baby's nursery..All from leftover fabric..
For comparison he had recently finished restoring an early 1970's vintage...
I've used Elmer's glue..no big deal...just a few well placed little spots and good to go.....
If I could use a needle and thread I would use a needle and thread.....
I watched one on TCM a few weeks ago. A ritual I have is to get up very early Saturday mornings ( if I feel like it :) ) and flip on TCM , there is usually a good old classic . I'm sure this is just a continuation of the sat morning cartoon marathons from childhood.......
Anyway, one called...

I think collecting can be genetic and exclusive of a specific genre. My Mom too thinks I'm a nut case, She likes the hats though because 25 years of hat wearing has been in memory of her father. the rest though she considers over indulgence..
All the men on My fathers side collect something...
