Close but no cigar
Original B-7 jackets were made from unfinished sheepskin - the outer surface of the jacket was white. The thickness of the shearling inside was likely somewhere between 3/4 and 7/8 inches thick.
The "repro" shown looks a little skimpy in the fleece department - wrong...
UWS Cowboy -
I think it's just the spray finish that is on the leather. I've got a tan-colored Sears leather jacket from that same era (it even has the same zip out lining)...the leather gets better looking with wear.
Enjoy your jacket!

Thanks for posting that photo. The jacket looks superb - grainy in some spots and smoother in others - just like a wartime A-2!
Very nice, fedoralover.

Too cool...
Thanks for posting those photos, marineabilly. I really dig those grizzlies - too bad I'm a size 44R...They probably stop at a size 40 or 42.
Do you know if these Laskinlamb jackets are manufactured by Toyo Enterprises or a different company? Just curious.
Thanks again!

I agree with John Lever and Fletch. The Buzz Rickson's B-2 is cut closer to a 1930s type of jacket (i.e. higher armholes and arms have a nice taper to the wrist) and the leather is lighter weight (3oz), which makes the jacket much less restrictive to wear.
The Lost Worlds version is...
Hi Brian. I would recommend a very, very light coating of Pecard's Classic Leather Dressing. If it all soaks in quickly, you can always add another light coat. The trick is to avoid overapplying - the surface gets sticky and just attracts dirt and grime.
Good luck with your G-1!

I was lucky enough to buy an Aran sweater while vacationing in Galway about 8 years ago. They are really good for those cold rainy days (Irish weather). Mine is a bit itchy with a short-sleeved shirt on but is perfect over a collared dress shirt with long sleeves.
If you can find one you...
What a great fit! Aero Leather did a fantastic job on that one. Is that made out of the oil-pull horsehide? It looks like it will wear in very nicely. Congratulations on a superb jacket!

Right on the money
Yes, that's right. The A-5 trousers were made from sheepskin that had the pile shaved down to 1/4 inch just like the B-6 jacket. The A-3 trousers and B-3 jacket had much thicker piling.

I can understand the initial shock of handling a correct-weight A-2. My first A-2 was a horsehide US Authentic. That jacket, which i still have, is really thick horsehide. It's a wonderful, well-built jacket but it wasn't going to serve the purpose that I needed it for. I needed a warm...
You won't be disappointed in the Lost Worlds B-2. The alpaca lining doesn't seem like much but combined with the windstopping power of the horsehide - it does the job. Last winter was a real test for mine and it passed with flying colors!

From that close-up shot of the collar, that collar shape looks remarkably like a David D. Doniger A-2 collar. I think that Doniger was based in New York though - not California.
I really like the style of that jacket. Best of luck in making a reproduction. Please keep us posted...
