Just got this from Netflix. Couple questions:
1. Where can I buy a watch that I can trade in for a 20's haircut, suit and motorcycle jacket?
2. Is anyone making that jacket, besides the Belstaff abomination Paddy showed?
BLASPHEMER! Lies, all lies, Barbour and Belstaff will tell you. ;) Yes, I suppose its quite true, however. ;)
Hmm! Quite a nifty idea. I suppose the trouble is finding a quality made cotton garment these days.
Thanks for the info!
I debated whether to put this in motion picture, general discussion or what but I noticed something in the past two episodes with Pete Campbell.
At the end of the previous episode, Freddie gets fired. Campbell is wearing his usual suit - a slightly primary navy color which seems reminiscent...
Well, good to know! However, now may be the time to snag some well broken in or cheap Corcorans, as the services are moving to the sueded boot, which most are made by a different concern.
Rainbow something? can't remember the name, haven't been to military clothing on base for a month...
I may get shot by the VLJ enthusiasts, but this looks like the best replica of an A-2 I've seen in years. Why?
Done by hand. Mechanical precision limited – the touch of a human hand. Probably small imperfections. Wear from handling and grain from leather that maybe doesn't perfectly match...
If you don't, the jacket loses its waterproof quality. And, as Barbour says, if it wears down too much, the cotton loses its ability to keep the wax on (impregnation), and the jacket becomes unreproofable and worthless.
However, if you can put the $345 US together for a Beaufort, the $40...
I hate to talk through my hat, and I may be WAY off base. But a story I read here said the current company simply bought the Corcoran name. It's not the original company.
If you got the dough, buy some Aldens.
Thank you! As an Air Force officer I can say that military boots are not ALWAYS the best, for the reasons you quoted above. In my experience, Corcorans have been decent boots, but I don't know if I was blown away by them. I needed arch support added through aftermarket Dr. Scholls stuff, but...
I typed in "Bay Rum" and nothing came up.
Then I was frustrated, so I typed in "rum" - again nada.
Now I have no cologne and desire rum, and search doesn't work. Guess I'm left thirsty and dumb! :)
Thank you for this mention! I was just reflecting sadly on the lack of Dracula related material, this close to Halloween. It seems the grand old Holiday is taking a beating these days!
Very informative, but gave short shrift to '79's version with Langella, a childhood favorite.
As an observer on the sidelines, I'd like to say that this is one of the few threads where the diversions and asides have been hilarious. :) Great for taking ones mind off the current situation - whatever it will evolve into.
I keep trying to get my wife to pick one up so as to avoid countless fashion changes among jackets, but to no avail. My battered old Beaufort appeals only to me I suppose.
By the by, my tips here are primarily for "us yanks" in that Barbour is more of a niche brand here. Information and...
I might be preaching to the east coast and dog and horse crowd here, but I had tough luck finding this info previously.
I've just rewaxed two hunting jackets, and I figured I'd give you the straight dope.
1. Sending your jacket away to Barbour now will be like waiting for Congress to pass...
Well, I'm a man, but an old hand at ironing from the Air Force.
1. Powerful, hot and heavy iron is the key. Not just any $10 Chinese jobby is gonna do the trick. Invest in a decent one and you're set. I have my grandmothers Sunbeam with its original box from 1952. That'll do.
2. Rediscover...
These were my grandmothers. Her hands were very small and petite. If you have small hands or are of asian descent, these may be for you. I sell them here because I'd hate to get them returned to me. You know vintage people were smaller, here's proof!
<a...
These were in my grandmothers possession for ages. The interior of the rectangular case is plastic to resist spills and staining. The makeup case looks great, and both look like they just came from the department store downtown.
Asking $25 shipped for both cases...
What?!? I've been wanting one of these for five years, thinking I can't afford it and they're under 20 bucks each?!? I always assumed they were like $70! That tears it, when my Air Force money comes through I'm ordering one for every member of the household, including the shaving set! Thanks for...
