Earp, I picked up a great tip here on FL I've been using today. It's a great way to dig the Fedora Lounge gold mine. Go to Google, and type in your keywords, and add "site:www.thefedoralounge.com". I just did:
"straw steam site:www.thefedoralounge.com"
at Google and immediately had some...
That's a tall telescope, I hope the Resistol has a high crown:) If the black tends to "blue black", that sounds gorgeous. If Resistol was doing a warm black...

Thanks, folks.
I would enjoy reading other "do it yourself" write-ups. I'd like to learn better or easier ways to do each part.
If anyone remodels a hat because they read this, I hope they will write it up.
Updated, steps 6-8
6. Shape the brim
Comments: 1/2" - 3/4" rise (or drop, when snapped down) on a 2 3/4" brim is about right for me. Other tastes will vary. Steps 6.1 - 6.6 are one alternative to brim shaping, step 6.1.a is another alternative.
Supplies: iron and ironing board, 4 feet of 3/4"...

4. "Wet" cleaning
Comments: If the hat is clean enough for you, you can skip to Step 5, "Shape the crown". One black hat I did this with bled dye onto the ironing board cover. One dirty hat came out pretty clean...

DIY Cowboy Hat to Fedora Conversion Notes
This decribes one way to convert an unused fur felt cowboy hat into a fedora using tools and supplies you may already have around the house.

Can't help on the hat question but

Great under the radar find! Would you call that color "peach"? Or is it pinker, like a mauve? I'd have to think about what to wear with it, but its sure a purty hat:eusa_clap
I can see that in a workplace. Many women live very busy lives, and I often see them out running errands, grocery shopping, whatever. And they have hairstyles that take time to look at their best. So I see a lot of ponytails, clipped-back hair, whatever they can do to manage their hair when...
Interesting. Sounds like one (global) customer base that may be enough to keep Borsalino, and a number of retailers, in business just from that trade alone. Which makes me wonder, what are the biggest "vertical markets" and/or consumer groups (like the example above) for fur felt hats?
I thought they must be uncommon. I asked myself "how long before the next apparently clean old Stetson derby in 7 1/2 comes along?" I watched a 7 1/2 Stratoliner disappear into the Stratosphere (as far as I was concerned, I guess it sold for a reaonable price) this morning. I hope this ends up...
Well, I have old hats, but I hope this is a nice old hat:) Snagged it today, pics are from the listing. And then I wondered "could it be wool"
Can anyone tell me anything about it? Thanks!
Great find - crown shape name?
Good grab, bolthead. That will look sharp brim up or down.
Folks, what would that crown shape be called? I think it's not centerdent, not c crown, not telescope...
The liners I've removed have a size marking to match the hat, so I guess they come in different sizes and I guess that makes sense.
A local tailor could make a copy using the one you have as a pattern. It's not difficult sewing, according to my wife.
Joel, I like the result. I agree about short-crowned hats often wanting short brims to match.
The brim edge looks somewhat rounded, but it could be my imagination. Did you do anything special to round the edge? BTW, I agree about needing really sharp scissors to do a nice job easily.
If the liner is not attached at the top of the hat, you can turn down the sweatband and gently pull the liner so it hangs down below the hat. Put a capful of Woolite in a shallow pan or bowl of cool water. Let the liner soak in the Woolite by balancing the hat on the rim of the pan. Don't get...
Christy's is of course the obvious choice. I believe the sizes used by Miller are US sizes, even for Christy's. But you would always ask them to verify during ordering. If the bowler wearer is used to a wool felt derby, then he might be surprised by the stiffness of the Christy's. Please see...
Hi and Welcome Achille!
If I understand what you are asking, then let's look at your first picture. You can see the entire brim (what is this part of the hat called in French?) has an upward curve all the way around the hat. Many or most hats with brims are shipped like this, and some people...
