Just bought a pair at an antique store -- $18.00. (The cost of the prescription, on the other hand...) They're not wire frames but those are out there, too. You have to be willing to dig through the piles of bad 80s frames but they are definitely out there. Good luck!
I totally agree.
It reminds me of a short scene in "Gaudy Night" by Dorothy L. Sayers (1935 mystery novel) where an Oxford don is having dinner at a ladies' college and his shirt front -- front closing kind-- is too long. Every time he leans forward, the two halves snap together making a...
Heard them when they played in town (Vancouver) earlier this year. My advice to all my friends is "if they come back -- GO!!!" They put on an amazing show!
Walking in a department store one day a lady walked past who smelled just like my grandmother--don't know what the scent was/is but it sure took me back.
Wood smoke in the rain sends me back to Japan.
Recently discovered Candy Matson. There are only a few shows around but a great series. There weren't a lot of female detectives but she's defintely a swell dame!
What fun!! I dug out my "Good Housekeeping" recipe book from 1922 and checked the section whre they have recommended menus.
For example, a Sunday dinner for November:
Okra Soup
Tenderloins of Pork with Sweet Potatoes
Creamed Cauliflower
Lettuce Salad French Dressing
Tapioca Cream...
I think that the tailors of the time were far less fussy than we are! "It needs a stripe; put a stripe...Where? on the side of the leg, where do you think??"lol
It really depends on the type of pocket. I've seen modern evening trousers with the stripe behind the pocket but they have slash pockets (diagonal pockets not in line with the side seam). The older evening trousers all have pockets set into the side seam.
:offtopic: This really IS turning...
A couple of weeks, working off and on; it's a very simple pattern. I was working on it while my dad was having open heart surgery so a lot of it was done in the waiting room during his surgery (that's the main reason I can't get rid of this particular one!!) [highly successful surgery, by the way]
And they charge outrageous prices for the most boring cufflinks. I don't think I've ever spent more than $20 for a vintage pair. (I've seen them more expensive but I'm just cheap)
First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!!!:eusa_clap And what a great wedding present. I'm glad to hear you're planning on continuing to use it. Things like that need to be used (carefully, of course, but used nonetheless).
Single stripes range anywhere from half an inch to a full inch wide. The older ones tend to be a little narrower, in my experience.
The forward pockets were done only by some tailors. It was supposedly on just the pockets but the whole side seam. The trousers were cut so that the side seam...
Thanks for the compliments.
Maybe someone here has some insight on a question I've always had about the original picture/pattern:
Ever since I first saw the picture for the pattern, I've been trying to figure out how she gets the cuffs to stay on her wrists. Cufflinks, probably but do...
