I have a pair of Dacks (very old Canadian shoe maker -- started in 1834) made of water buffalo that are oxblood. They are the sturdiest shoes I've ever seen. My dad has a pair that are older than I am! (and I'm 38). They're also incredibly comfortable.
:offtopic: Dack's is a great shoemaker...
But also remember that, unless you're 6'7" or so, most people are going to look down to see the flower. The bulb will not be perceived as highly prominent unless they're much shorter than you.
Actually, it's a very good question. I have no experience myself. I know the Cave and Basin Hot Springs in Banff used to rent out suits like this until quite recently (may still do, I don't know). I assume the pool is chlorinated but I can't find any information one way or the other. They use...
Root,
I'll wear mine if you wear yours! I've always wanted to wear it in public. I've worn it in the back yard...
I ALMOST took the 'thirties reproduction one with me when we went on a cruise but didn't. Still kind of regret not taking it.
The trunks are absolutely flat front, no cup; no shaping whatsoever. There is a fairly narrow liner down the insdie front to minimize "showthrough". The belt is woven cotton with a double D-ring buckle.

Here are the two that I own. The one on the right is a vintage Jantzen that I bought at a local vintage store. The one on the left is the one my friend knit for me from a vintage pattern. It's burgundy, if you can't see the colour too well.
I think that by the time interfacing quality improved enough to get away without starching, it was a fashion thing. Stand up collars were just seen as too old fashioned. They made a brief resurgence in the 80s (when I first got hooked on them) but it was more of a fad.
That's what brought...
I don't have a cell phone and am perfectly content without one but my biggie:
High index lenses
60 years ago, I would have been wearing coke bottles!!!
Fashion and the lack of someone else to do your laundry.
Stand up collars need to be starched stiff to hold their shape. It's actually not that hard to do but most people don't like doing laundry so ...
Fold over collars don't need that strength of stiffness (they're folded over so...
They're only formal when on a boiled shirt.
In the 50s and 60s they sold a lot of "convertible cuffs" which were a single cuff with both a button and a second button hole. I've had a few of those. I would point out that you're limited as to cuff link choice because they're not as sturdy. If...
There was a British TV series several years ago about an English finishing school in the 50s. It was very well done and very funny. Unfortunately, I can't remember the title. someone else here may know.
Obviously the reason for the ban is that the hats are so amazingly good looking that they would draw everyone's attention from anything else.
We could call them "weapons of mass distraction"
[ducking to avoid the flying tomatoes]
They are beautiful hats!
For what sort of function? It's an ensemble you only generally see at weddings nowadays; usually worn by grooms whose brides choose their clothing. I can only give my personal opinion but I would say avoid it. To me it tends to scream "badly advised rental!!"
If you're going to wear a...
