I couldn't live without my modern ethnically diverse diet. Meat and potatoes washed down with milk is so just yuk to me.

My Palm device.

Oh, it's not what you think. I read e-books on the Palm. I can carry the contents of a small library with me at once, unobtrusively. It automatically keeps my place in any book I'm reading, even if I open another book. I can read in bed without needing to have the light on. It will scroll automatically, so I can read hands-free while on the ellipical machine or stationary bike.

It's so convenient I now can read 35-40 books a year instead of the 5-10 I used to manage.

It would be tough without the microwave. I'd be sad to see my DVR go away. I would not be sad to watch my cellphone sink in the Hudson River. But the only way you're getting my palm is to pry it out of my cold, dead fingers.

I just wish they made one in a classy '30s design to harmonize with the rest of my kitchen...

They really should! I mean, there are retro-inspired toasters and even microwaves with built-in coffee makers these days, so why not something prettier, too??

lol lol lol

In my youth we all had to shut our eyes while the mouse came down out of the light to eat my brother's mashed potatoes. Those were some long, boring, mouse-waiting dinners.

I guess I'm in the stone age in some ways. I've had computers since 1988 and enjoy them for the most part. My wife carries the one cell phone we have. I don't have Tivo, use the DVD player or VCR probably 2-3 times a year but do have satellite.

I think I'll say I wouldn't care do do without modern phamaceuticals.

  • A variety of fresh produce. I love to eat mangoes, tangerines and avacadoes year round.
  • A variety of gluten-free food. It's better than it was even five years ago.
  • Smoke-free workplace and restaurants (sorry, tobacco lovers). I'm allergic to smoke. Besides, during the golden age, I wouldn't have had my...
  • Whirlpool Fabric Freshener (it's a clothes steamer that removes odors and wrinkles).
  • Satellite radio. Since I listen mostly to vintage and classical stations, though, I might not miss it if I were transported back 50 or 60 years.

Adhesive

Duct tape, masking tape, painters trimming tape, clear boxing tape, scotch tape. Basically the modern plastic movement with sticky stuff on it.

Ironic?

I find it funny that many of the modern conveniences that I love are typically the ones that I use to "transport" me back in time!

For instance:

Satellite radio, for 1940s music and radio broadcasts
TIVO and Netflix, for old WW2 movies and documentaries
Internet, for hanging here at FL and lots of shopping and research
e-bay, for more shopping!
