I've just started watching the series, thanks to Netflix. And I love it--Michael Kitchen especially. His eyes are so kind, and I adore his understatements. My kinda guy. I've got my parents hooked on it too! So far, we've watched the first three episodes, and I'm very excited about the next...
You should take a look at these, from Restoration Hardware. They're really light, and very retro-cool!

Now to be fair, I have yet to see No Country for Old Men, and I wanted to--that wasn't the choice I was disappointed about, 'cause I really respect the Coen Brothers. I'll see if I'm upset after I see the film. Diabolo Cody's win irritated me (I thought Juno was way overrated) and There Will Be...
I've seen Once three times now, and the last time I watched it, I cried through the whole thing. Silly hormones. I love that movie!
Some of the gowns this year were really stunning, Helen Mirren and Katherine Heigl in particular. Very thirties-inspired, I think.
Me too! It was the highlight of the awards, along with Marion Cotillard and Daniel Day-Lewis winning. Not so happy about most of the other choices, though...
Ooh, fun sharing!
Here's my great-grandmother Thel (such a cute hat!):
My great-grandparents Ruth and Ken and my mom, at Disneyland, circa 1958:
My great-grandfather Harry, 1920:
And my grandmother with a cousin (I believe!):
Ooh, music that's pushing the bounds?
Noisettes
West Indian Girl
Cold War Kids
Modest Mouse
Yeasayer
As to whether "and 'pushing the bounds' just screams "golden era'", well, why not? There's no such thing as a period without change, and music evolved just as everything else did.

Charleston, you look dapper, and I can't believe this is your, um, "scruffy" look! lol I'm thinking that someone compared you to Andy Garcia a few days ago, but you remind me of this guy, Richard Armitage:
Erm, well, growing up in the late eighties, I didn't have a chance! Acid wash, polka dots, lime green, stirrup pants. Lovely. The choice was limited, and I didn't learn what looked good on me until the past few years.
Oh, how was Notes on a Scandal? I've wanted to watch it since the previews came out--it looks fantastic. Both leading ladies are two of my favorite actresses.
The only time I had rum straight was in France, at a bar on the island of Saint-Malo. A local bought me a few shots of the cinnamon-infused variety, and it was amazing! Makes me drunk like a pirate though. Fun for everyone.
Otherwise I have it in a mojito...
I'm quite boring with sandwiches...I really like anything with portobellos, mozzarella, and balsamic, if I was going fancy. But truly? Ham, gruy?®re and butter on a baguette. Or egg mayo, which, I am told, is the only sandwich ever left over at children's parties. Oh well, more for me!!
Age of Innocence. It's been so long since I've seen this movie that it felt like watching it again for the first time. Really gorgeous, frustrating, educational, and entertaining--what a bargain! lol
Agreed... and I think that this "super-life" expectation is even more so where we live, RBD. I get lonely too--one of my best friends lives in Scotland, the other in San Francisco. I have other people to see down here, but everyone is too busy to enjoy a spontaneous night out. That's what I...
