It's a sad truth that mens sports and work wear aren't what they once were. I had similar troubles in trying to find decent plaid workshirts. Those Bookster's do look nice however. If anyone has a pair, could they comment on the fit?
These seem to be making a resurgance today. JCrew in particular seems to be carrying alot of them...
Personally, I think they look a bit TOO casual, though I suppose they could be pulled off if one wears it with the right attitude. Maybe loosen it up a bit around the neck, smaller knot, leave...

True, but I'm actually headed for a college campus... not to mention the fact that we have plenty of bitter winters and rainy days hear in New England. Still, I can see how it might be wise to go for a lighter tweed considering how warm air-conditioning is. I suppose in the golden era...

Thank you for sharing such a moving story with us. Your father looks to be a truly Dapper man... something rare in any era I must say.
Though I do find your avatar a bit shocking... I can't help but get a chuckle. Thanks for posting!
Good to know, thanks!
That's surprising to hear that heavier wools are often considered more desireable. I suppose I've been brought up to believe that "lighter" is finer... though I suppose it has to do more with the weave?
Based on my (sadly limited) travels of England, I'd say seasons...
Excellent!
That's exactly what I was looking for actually... good old fashioned tweeds and woolens. Only trouble is, the trousers are a bit outside of my price range atm... ahh well. Something to save up for at least.
Any suggestions on fabric weights?
Well, there you have it!
As has been said before on this forum, the deciding factor in warmth for a leather jacket is in the lining you choose, more so than the actual weight of the jacket. A sheepskin jacket, for instance, is a very thin shell of leather with a very thick pile of fluffy wool...
Awww man... that's a shame :(
You'd think this sort of thing might be easier to find, what with international brand names and marketing these days... Is there any chance that you could find a decent trench on ebay, or on sale at one of the chain stores?
Occasionally such things do turn up...
Though I did do a search of the forums before starting this thread, I wasn't able to find exactly what I was looking for...
I'm searching for a few good pairs of nicely-made wool trousers in classic tweeds and prints (herringbones, houndstooth, and windowpane prefferably). Also, I'm wondering...
Paddy that looks nice!
Anyone know how Wigens' caps compare? The B! Wear caps look cool, but I don't think my face could pull it off... probably need a trimmer cut. Could they make less of a deep cut, or is this the true-blood traditional style of newsboy?

Also bear in mind that leather hides can vary between batches, cuts, and tanning procedures. Your best bet here is to email Magnoli, and if necessary ask for leather samples.
Just out of curiousity, what style of jacket are you looking for, and what do you want to use it for? If...

That's a real shame! It does look like a nice coat... but you're right that those gaping tears in the lining are unacceptable. Any company with a return policy ought to be smart enough to take that back... send you a new one in working order as well!
I don't know how common...
Hey STW
While it all depends on the boots and belt in question, I honestly wouldn't sweat it that much. POSSIBLY try to find a black belt, as if the jacket ends at your waist, the brown/black contrast might be more apparent. Even so, I don't think it's a real issue. So long as your happy with...
If you're looking to match a black fedora, your options on color may be narrowed based on color matching... personally, I'd go with a nice charcoal-gray wool coat... possibly vintage. A peacoat would probably work, though I've never seen it done with a black fedora...
Best of luck!
Huh...
Thought so... I suppose there wouldn't be much weight lost due to the oils leaving the leather over the decades?
I have a LHB from Aero made of "crazy horse" FQHH, a sale item that I nabbed to go with my Bootlegger. Though the tag says it is FQHH, it feels much lighter and pliable...
Thanks RP!
Sorry, but it doesn't seem like there was anything like what she's looking for at Miller Hats... Good resource for future searches though!
Does anyone know a good vendor (online or in the NY area) that sells vintage women's hats? That might be our best bet...
Nice one Doublegun... I have to second the opinion of tossing your Aero's to the bottom of the closet. Don't forget to pull them out for airing however...
This thread has got me wondering: is Aero's FQHH the same weight as a vintage horsehide jacket? I've heard stories of Amelia Earhart...
