That looks like a modern "bomber jacket" style. Notice the way that the leather creases and folds so easily? That's indicative that it's made of a thin-lightweight leather... probably lambskin.
It appears to have a knit-wool collar... possibly some sort of patch-pockets as well...
Sadly, as others have pointed out, hat shops in general have gone well... the way of the hat. Society at large no longer views fine hats as a practical or sartorial necessity.
Thus, finding a decent hat for a decent price has become nearly impossible, and while I would love to support my...
Crazylegsmurphy
First off, congratulations! That sounds like an awesome trip... be sure to post photos and show off your adventure ;)
As far as a hat goes, I'd suggest a rather plain fisherman's hat or wool cap... preferably one that's been already worn in (for added "look") or one that...
Doublegun
There's also Schott. While I don't own a leather jacket from them, I do have a peacoat that they made. It's nice work. I don't think they offer a halfbelt... but some of their motorcycle jackets look alot like Aero's.
As far as Aero is concerned, I can say firsthand that you'll...
Doublegun
I believe it's a style common to the 40's-50's, though there may be examples from earlier? Most of the vintage LHB styles that I have seen have had a synthetic quilted lining, which I've always associated with the postwar era (new fabrics came into production during the war years...
Mario, that "senate hearing" is priceless! I say we get a petition going for an economic bailout of vintage hat "distributors" (coughcollectorscough) :) :)
Unfortunately gentlemen, I seem to lack the means for acquiring or wearing a large collection of fine hats. Though I of...
LHB
As luck would have it, I just received an LHB from Aero as well.
I say wear it however you like... it's already a different style from today's masses. As far as avoiding the Indy look, maybe go for a wool cap, jeans, plaid shirt or the like? Anything that has "workwear" in it's...
While not really at all a part of the golden age...
Eddie Vedder's soundtrack for the film "Into The Wild". Beautiful solo acoustic guitar work.

Akubra
I own two: a Fed IV Deluxe, and a Whippet.
Through my limited experience with true vintage hats, I have to say that the Akubras simply don't have the soft touch or crease quality of most vintage hats. The Akubra felts are rougher and thicker... designed to take a beating rather than a...
Here's a thought...
Could it be possible that this is a wartime garment? The reason this comes to mind is that the government took control of nearly all wartime industries, and forced companies to switch to manufacturing for the war effort. The garment industry was no exception. Many civilian...
It's a mix for me
I like the "Beat" or "Rebel" look of the late 40's (which I suppose goes up through the '60's?), though I'm not as fond of how men's clothing fit in the 50's. Add to that a mix of 30's suits (fitted, the way they should be IMO), workwear, 40's uniforms and flight jackets...
Plaid Shirts?
Hey All
Didn't want to start a new thread, so I thought I'd see if anyone here has a good source for nice plaid workshirts? I'm looking for something in a nice flannel or heavy-weight material, and thus far have only found light-weight summer shirts. Sort of going for the 30's...
I brought my Fed IV deluxe along recently when I traveled to Egypt. If you don't mind wearing the hat constantly, then it won't come to much harm. As others have mentioned, it can make an excellent eyeshade so long as you're not against the "Indy" look.
It can, however, be a bit more to...
Enigma
That's the coolest find I've seen in a long time. The colar and front look 30's to me... What's the back look like? It looks slimmer fitting, so I suppose that might be an indication that it's from the 30's (rather than a 50's "drape"). Also, check the lining. I BELIEVE that nylon...
Lear
Awww... Kids do alot of things without thinking much about the consequences. Very few people are really capable of appreciating things from the past, particularly when they aren't something one would see every day. I can't tell you how many treasures have been lost in my family simply...

Is this something like what you're looking for? They seem like a better price. I'm not entirely sure about metal frames printed in tortoisshell...

Are either of these like what you are looking for? I know neither have the double pockets, but they do look rather nice. Sort of the Robert Redford or Australia...
