Thank you Sir, yes after I did a little more research and realised that in fact the union label was changed in 1939, and that the 1939 label was the same as the 1934 label.
Then the label as you probably know was changed again in 1949, with the illustration of a sewing machine on it.
So...
Forgot to mention with all the excitement of finding the suit, I also found this in Vinnies charity shop last week.
I think it's 1950's, the Akubra stylemaster, in a mocca kind of colour, size 59 and it super condition.
All it needs is a re, blocking and hopefully look ok, as you can see...
Thanks DamianM, Must admit I am a little confused over this one, you think 1950's, I noticed on the union label there was a date of 1939.
Now not having any knowledge of these old suits, I was wondering how can you tell it's from 1950's, as I also have, the original advertising for this very...
Thank you.. That's two amazing finds I have had in only a few short months, what with the tray I found not that long ago, and now this beautiful suit, I am beginning to wonder if someone is guiding me.. as it never normally happens to me.
Three months ago I purchased my holy grail of 1940's suits from the states, after what seemed like eternity looking for a good condition one in my size.
Today I decided to drop by a local thrift store, to see if I could find anything, I asked the store worker if they had any old suits, he...
Yes getting the tweed back out again, is something I look forward to as well, the old Harris tweed always amazes me, you can still get great quality jackets at dirt cheap prices, the one you see me wearing there, was a whopping 8 bucks, and its built like a tank, awesome quality.
I know tweed...
Today decided on the Chester lee Harris Tweed jacket, wool vest vintage plaid shirt , Harris Tweed 8 panel cap, and thick heavy cords. Rounded off with argyle socks and heavy duty vintage Loake brogues, just nice and comfortable for our winter.
Today I am just starting to break in my new Akubra Campdraft such a comfortable hat, at first I wasn't prepared for the size of the hat as I am used to wearing slightly, smaller brims and slightly lower crowns, but must be honest it's grown on me, and the more I wear it the better it feels.
Beautiful shirts GHT, you really must commend your lovely lady on such a fine job, and superbly chosen fabric. And thanks for the hint on the shoe makers name, just been over to his web site, they look really nice and not a bad price either for handmade.
My suggestion is may be have a look at the Akubra Squatter as well, I've been told by Sam from Everything Australian, that the squatter is almost identical to the fed deluxe or standard fed, but much cheaper, the fed deluxe runs at about 190 dollars the squatter from Everything Australian, 88 if...
I've had my Akubra Campdraft, a few days now, I rang Sam told him my head size which is exactly 22.5 inches, he told me I needed a size 58.
And was glad to see when it arrived it fitted, amazingly well, and could not be happier, now I am just waiting on my Squatter to arrive, in steel grey.
Here...
You are correct about the heavy overcoats here, like lolly said more than likely brought here from overseas and never used again. There also seems an abundance of fur and faux fur, the genuine fur seems to be making a comeback, and charity shops must have picked up on this, as most furs I see...
Newton in Sydney is what most consider to be the vintage capital of Sydney, must admit there are plenty of so called vintage shops.
I only recently spent a whole weekend down there looking for certain items, and came a way with nothing, I got chatting with one shop owner who basically said that...
Thanks V C B for that, ain't I glad there are still talented musicians, that can actually play their instruments and offer us this kind of music today, as opposed to all the talentless rubbish we have to endure every time we turn on the radio or tv and have to be bombarded, with manufactured...
