Borsig, what size hat are you, the reason I ask is because there is a Stylemaster on ebay Australia right now, looks new in a size 57, for 50 bucks, it is it's second listing as well.
I can also recommend the Akubra Squatter for a look that will pass for the 40's fedora's should you bash it...
Thanks all for your kind comments, there are some seriously great looking hats being posted here, you all make me very envious. Now all I have to do is find myself a nice panama for our up coming hot season.
On the way out today to a christening, thought I would wear my new Akubra Squatter, 1940's pinstripe suit & Silk tie, and a spear point collar shirt I recently found in a local op shop.
Beautiful day out in our incredible winter weather we are having here in Australia.
This came yesterday my first Akubra Squatter, for the price it's a great hat and I really like it.
I am sure you all know that feeling once you try on a new hat, does it feel right or not, does it look good on me, well I am pleased to say I took to the Squatter like a duck to water, I will be...
Thank you, to be honest I was not sure the line bash line would come out after being in that shape for years, but took it down to my local Akubra stockist, and he put it back on the block and worked a little magic and it came good.
Even he admitted with the old bash especially the pork pie...
Yesterday and today actually, I love this one, found only a few weeks ago in a local op shop bashed into a pork pie.
A few weeks pass and a little modification, and bobs your uncle a new look Akubra Stylemaster pocket weight.
Pork pie bash no more.
Must admit I love the soles on these shoes, as you can see they look like they have an aged wooden appearance.
And you say from the late 40's or early 50's. I did do a little research, to find out when they could have been made but came up with not a great deal, so thanks for the input.
I will...
Picked these up a couple of days ago from a local Vinnies, in the clearance bin. Great looking shoes and looks to have never been worn.
Plus a brand new pair of English Baxter Shoes with shoe trees also in the clearance bin, beautiful pair of shoes.
Cookie.. Did any of your old school blazers look like this, or is this earlier, I picked this up today, from the same op shop, where I picked up the other 1940 suit, only a few days ago.
I would say the later.. otherwise I am sure they would have found there way up here for all the members to see.
The same goes for hats, well at least hats with age, they don't exist here..
Yes sorry for my average pictures I will take some more tomorrow in a natural light setting, hopefully then you can get a better look at it's construction.
Your not wrong there Shangas, there is no way this would have been looked at in the Australian summer, let alone worn its that thick, the padding in the shoulders made me laugh, it must be half inch thick in places.
Here is one of my vintage Australian suits.. how on earth this was worn is beyond me, this suit is extremely heavy, it is built like a tank.
As you can see it is a three piece suit, the pants are button fly, and the jacket is single button, I am assuming it is from the early 40's I may be...
Thank you, I did mention in another thread how I came to have two identical, quite remarkable really.
And yes the fit is spot on, as we you know most of these early suits the waist lines are normally very small, just so happens I am a 32inch waist so it fitted great.
A recent thrift shop find.. now I have two suits made by Timely Clothes, they are identical in every way, one purchased in America, only a few short months ago, and this one I found only two days ago at my local op shop.
I will upload the other later as there is a slight difference in labels..
