New to Hat Making - My First Fedora!

Hello, everyone! I've been lurking here for a little while, and since I just took the plunge started making hats, I thought I'd post the process on my first fedora. I love the style so much, on both men and women, and I loved the process. It was time consuming, but really fun. I'm hopeful that my next hat will be even better. This is a 7 1/4 man's Fedora that I made for a friend. I still haven't lined or put the hatband in yet - I'd like to check sizing on his head before I do to see if I need to make any alterations. Anyways, I hope to be more active on the forum now, and I hope you enjoy seeing the process I went through from the furfelt capeline to the finished hat! I tried to upload pics individually, but nothing worked, so I set them in a gallery on photobucket & included the url. I hope that works! Cheers, N

Thank you! I'm really enjoying hattery. It takes a long time, but I really appreciate how much you can rework if you don't get it perfect the first time! It's a much less anxious sort of hobby!

+1... if your friend doesn't appreciate it, that is my size, let me know....;):D

Haha! I've actually picked up two more 7 1/4 blocks from a defunct factory. One is a pretty high crown, similar to this one, and the other is shorter. I've got black & dark navy fur felt coming to try them out!

Nice first effort. Really. Pics of the inside when finished, please? I am a 7 1/8. Lol

Absolutely! I've got the lining prepped, but I want to try it on his head before I sew it in - if it needs to be snugged up a bit (I don't think it will, but better to check first) I can hide any alterations under the lining/sweatband so it looks clean inside. It's going to be a black lining with a silver petersham sweatband.
