Apologies...
...for not yet sending out letters to my pen-pals (insert usual life-distraction story here). Fortunately this afternoon is free, the typewriter is oiled, and the envelopes and stamps are waiting at the side of the desk. :)
Oh yes, Annabelle's candy company--a San Francisco (OK, now Hayward, CA) institution! Viva la Rocky Road! Are they distrubuted nationally, I wonder?
(Parenthetically, it is so sad many Bay Area sweet-makers (i.e. Mother's Cookies, the Hostess plants in SF and Oakland, etc) have left the area...
I have the small one (the size of an index card) for lists/notes/reminders, easier than firing up the PDA for writing notes...I like the "pocket" in the cover too! When I'm using a small purse I can just put ID, cash, etc in the notebook pocket and not have to carry a wallet.
Good thinking! I have some vintage zipper cases that were meant to carry shoes while traveling that are hatboxish-shaped (slight taper)--I keep my delicate hats in them. I see the cases on ebay often.
Just my opinion, but posting one's writing on a publically viewable internet site (well I know a few forums here are member-only) implies de facto willingness of it being disseminated and read...
Oh yep! :) I've read that putting a little lavender (i.e. essence or oil) in with the spray bottle of water has a amplified cooling effect. (I don't know how "masculine" lavender is considered nowadays...)
Re: which Coty powder...
Translucent ("fragrance free" it says which is odd as it does as a faint (nice) scent). I know the drugstores around here have the Extra Coverage and another one, presumably the colored one.
I recently tried Necco Wafers and alas, was not too taken with them, but I do like Necco SkyBars...Clark bars...and Planter's Peanut bars. Also Coffee Crisp (which seems to be mainly a Canadian treat but is available in the Bay Area).
(and an Aside re: ties)
Looks pretty sharp! :)
If it's not too OT, I had a question re: ties (since I saw ties were being discussed upthread). I was watching some late 30s movies last night and noticed when some of the characters removed their jackets, the *back* of the tie wa a good 3"...
Re: grilled cheese sandwich
Of course... and don't forget the bowl of Campbell's Tomato soup on the side!
(Geez, I remember when it used to be around 19 cents a can...what happened?)
Hi!
I'm sorry this is probably almost no help, but I was browsing in a used bookstore recently and noticed a sociologist's book on taxi dancers and dancehalls in the USA, I think published in the 1970s or 80s. So that might be something to look for if it's useful to you (I don't have the...
Greats post(s) and tunes, Cousin Hepcat! :)
That *is* very elaborate! :) I assume the names and equipment details are real to give verisimilitude to the story? :cool2:
Me, unfortunately I don't have any large, almost-complete collections of anything, just small, very-incomplete...
Not to sound too neurotic but...
...leave the house! :)
Even if I run to the corner store in dungarees I have to put on lipstick and at least a scarf for my hair or something. (Would that others suffered from my affliction... ;)
The Poet Laureate of the Fedora Lounge! :eusa_clap ;)
Well, here in San Franstinko, I just came home wearing 2 sweaters and a jacket! Hopefully those chill breezes are blowing southward!
