This is totally dependent on your hair type and the products you use. If you have normal to thin hair it might work well, but you'll still struggle to get the same hold from heat as you would from an overnight/several hour wet set. Would love to see some of your looks! :)
Oh no Smokering, I'm sorry to hear that! :( You must have very strong hair - beautiful to look at but so difficult to work with!
You could try to find a stronger setting lotion or experiment with different hairsprays and pomades. Or perhaps try some vintage updos, play around with rolls etc...
I know that feeling! My hair used to be very long and totally un-curlable, so I cut it the shortest it's ever been, thinking it might help... and it's still an absolute pain! Very interested to see how yourself and agirlinwinter's perming experiences go. Would love to be able to keep a nice hair...
Daisy and Myrtle's headband styles from the latest Gatsby film sprang to mind when I read your post - I wonder if you might be able to achieve that 20s look?
A Vintage Vanity did a great tutorial for Myrtle, Vintagious posted one without curling, too.
Good luck, I hope you can find...
I hope this is an okay place to post! Pillow rollers are tough to find in England, but now Claire's sell them online and in many of their stores. Definitely worth trying if you've been put off by international shipping prices or custom fees in the past, UK folk. :)
Welcome, Amandarae! I hope you're happy with your new haircut :) It looks like your hair has taken a fair bit of curl despite it's length so hopefully, when it's a bit shorter it'll be just right! Enjoy curling :)
Maybelline Superstay 24 Color lipsticks are the only product I've ever used that actually last all day, through drinking and eating. I really highly recommend them - though the shade range is sadly quite limited. I rarely wear "normal" lipstick at all now. They dry very quickly though, so be...
Have you tried undoing the pin curls and leaving them to fall naturally for a while (I find 20ish minutes helps) before brushing?
I have very thick hair and when I do a lot of pin curls for waves, it can take more than half an hour to finish brushing - and I don't have the time or arm strength...
Thank you for those photos Dinerman! It seems the design has not changed very much at all. Lily: no heels at all I'm afraid. :( A shame about Keds quality but I'm glad you told me. I don't think I'll get any unless I spot some super cheap in a sale. Bebe, thank you very much for those links...
Hello all,
I can no longer wear heels and so, am in need of new shoes. Usually I would rejoice at the thought of needing more shoes, but flat shoes are very alien to me! I would really appreciate if anybody has any information or photos of flat shoes worn around the 40s and 50s. I've been...
It will get easier with practise, but it will also get easier with cheating. ;) You can substitute pin curls for sponge rollers quite well for some looks - this is one of them. Just make sure the curls are placed in the same place the pin curls would be, and don't wrap the hair too tightly...
Definitely. I went to V&A to see the Hollywood Costume exhibition for Marilyn's dresses and had to queue, as the weekends were sold out weeks before I was to visit London. They usually reserve a small amount to be sold on the day but it's important to get there early. I arrived before opening...
