Safari guns
You got me looking for them now! lol. I found this on another forum while searching .577 Boxer revolver!
still hunting for a modern made howdah-style pistol that fires shells... I know they're out there, but frequently people confuse them with type II "sawed-off" shotguns...
Moved Post - Ladies' Adventure gear
I had posted this in the general safari thread, but some seemed to think it would fit better here, so I hope you don't mind the intrusion of a gentleman into the ladies powder room... (I promise I won't peek!) ;)
Don't misunderstand me - I believe in...
I thought this thread got merged with the other "Adventure Gear" thread, but it seems they left this for us to use more specifically for PICTURES of the gear we like...
So, here goes....
I'm still putting my adventurer outfit together, but I'm leaning more towards merging these
than the...
This was the best screen-shot I could find online...
It appears to be a merging of the stereotypical "gunslinger style"
with the common military rig of the time.
to come up with basically a vintage version of this:
Sorry I couldn't find better images of the actual...
StewartU, Any chance we might be able to get some photos of your trip? My sister, myself, my fiance, and her sister were all planning on a trip to Petra this last summer, but... let's just say life checked in. $$$$ :P Now, my fiance and I are planning to go there on our honeymoon, but I would...
I'll get up pics of mine when I finish it, but I have a custom hand-forged "adventure knife" modeled somewhat in style to this but without the dramatic drop point. I'm still working on the handle, but when it's done I'll post pics...
I also have a Turkish dagger sort of like this
I'll...
Thank you! :D I may keep looking around a bit, but so far this does seem to be the closest anyone has come to finding it for me. Rank may be important later, but for now as you said, I'm looking for a tunic... Especially as I will use it for more than a "costume piece" but rather an idea board...
Let's get it started!
+1!
Many people in the Golden Era still had their "daddies' rifles/guns" as their firearms of choice, much like some detectives still use .38s from the '60s as their off-duty choice. Many of the firearms used in CAS could be used in various classes in "Golden Era...
Only a Model 10 and 5" Victory Model?! The only vintage guns I have (shooting) access to is the previously mentioned "Radom VIS model 35" and a small .22short revolver my aunt has similar to this
but with (formerly) white grips. [I don't recall who made it, I'll have to check this week and see...
Rick O'Connell's Tunic
I had the same thought regarding the tunic appearing British, but as I know very little of the Legion I wasn't so sure. WPG's tunic is sharp indeeed, and may be just what I'm looking for. I can't tell the fabric type from their pics, but it looks wool and I'm looking...
Another idea would be - if that still looks too modern - to make a sleeve from corresponding material that slides over the belt like a circular belt loop... slide it away to un-clip, slide it back over after it's secure.
Thank you for the info! Are there any "replica" or civilian equivalents to this jacket?
and is this the "Mle1920 Capote", or is it something different? if so, what...?
Edward, I've searched French Foreign Legion field jackets of that era and come up with several other kinds, but have yet to see this one (except in snapshots from the mummy). If someone knew what to call it (as in, a "bag" can be a rucksack, kepi, or messenger) I think I'd have an easier time...
Jacket & Boots
Anyone know where I could find the field jacket Rick wears in The Mummy 1?
I've been looking for it online but don't know where to look as the most I know about it is that it's supposed to be French Foreign Legion, late 1890s/early 1900s... If someone at least knows what the...
Thank you! I knew there had to be someone that made modern replicas.... And thank you CW for the link! That is exactly what I was looking for! Now if I can just save up $1,300.... ;) :P
As to the 1911 B-day, this is a quote from Wikipedia: "Following its success in trials, the Colt pistol was...
Thank you all for the welcome and welcome in turn to Hawkins! I hope one of these days we can have another get together like the ones I've heard of, but until then: it's nice to know there's a whole community of history lovers, just one click away!
