Show Us Your Pedigree! The Heritage Thread.

I have done a little digging in my family tree and the last 5 generations are all from Yorkshire!

Autumn/Fall - YOUNG HERRIOT. Vet James Herriot as a young student in 1930's

I love living in Yorkshire! It is so beautiful.

    Adjusting to small town life.

It was a bit like that with my school. I went to a village school rather than the local one and the shop keeper and the pub owner both knew the headmaster so there was no getting away with anything. Plus there were all the curtain twitchers watching everything! The town I live in now is...

We could use a chat room on this forum, what do ya say????

I must wander about with my eyes closed! I don't really notice drama.

    Adjusting to small town life.

Oh I would be out there painting fences and planting flowers! It wouldn't work practically here as houses in the villages are so much more expensive and I would have to learn to drive. Nice dream though - little cottage in the countryside! Perhaps I am crazy but I like the idea of...

    Adjusting to small town life.

I would love to live in a small town! The population where I live is around 18 thousand although that includes the local villages. I love the idea of having a proper community and everyone knowing everyone else! I probably have a romanticised view of it but I would love to live in a little...

We could use a chat room on this forum, what do ya say????

I like the chat room idea. I can't see people falling out or arguing really but then I have never been on a forum where that has happened!

    Not So Jolly Old England

Luckily there were no riots near where I live. It is a scary time and for once I don't feel proud to be English. Watching the news has been surreal almost like watching a film. Listening to the rioters being interviewed I was ashamed. They really have no justification at all. They are trying...

    Best beauty decision you've made?

My best beauty change was to let my eyebrows go wild and grow back in then to totally reshape them. They now have an arch which I love!! It was quite traumatic growing them back though!

Correspondence - Find a Pen Pal

I love pen pals! I write to a lady in America from a home making type magazine and a girl I know from another forum is off to join the Amish so she will become a pen pal too once she has given up technology. It is so exciting to get post! I am a little odd and old fashioned but if anyone...

The rise and fall of RP on the BBC

BBC English or the Queen's English although the Queen doesn't sound as proper or clipped as she once did.

The rise and fall of RP on the BBC

I would love an RP accent! At the moment I have a sort of crazy Yorkshire x private school accent which is dreadful. If only there were still elocution lessons available.

Does wearing vintage Get you noticed by the opposite sex?

I much prefer the old fashioned way! Although some men I meet on evenings out make me wish that people had to be formally introduced rather than just launching into conversation, back to the Regency way - I could avoid some of the drunks and oddities I seem to attract then. :D

Does wearing vintage Get you noticed by the opposite sex?

:p Doubt it! I think it is more that they see something different and want to squash it. All in my best interests apparently!

Does wearing vintage Get you noticed by the opposite sex?

Pretty sure I am invisible most of the time! I get more comments when I wear something 50's inspired and curling my hair seems to get me noticed. Strange - I get negative comments from women but mostly positive from men. The women I work with are always trying to get me to straighten my hair.

    Dita Von Teese

I am looking forward to the beauty book. I saw her first book and loved the burlesque side but the fetish side put me off the book completely.

    Poise

I aim to be poised and ladylike - and fall short much of the time! Poise for me is part posture and bodily grace and part character and behaviour. Combining together to be charming and ladylike and yet natural - not forced or fake. The character part for me is a sort of unflappability...

The general decline in standards today

I have attended a few funerals and I wouldn't go in casual clothes ever. It would just feel disrespectful to me. Plus I would probably feel uncomfortable and wound't be paying as much attention as I should be to the funeral and relatives. I guess I would look back and feel like I had let my...
