Lizzie,
I have empathy for you. A few years ago tree roots had blocked our pipe leading under the sidewalk to the sewer. The sewer line from our 120 year old Queen Anne was original. It cost $1000 to repipe the 10 foot run to the street. During the few days it took for the plumber to get the...
Some years ago I ordered a " Maj. James Goodson A-2" which turned out to have been made in Pakistan. Not as authentic as I would have liked(a 2 piece back?!) but it makes a good knock-around jacket.
It is a remarkably preserved jacket for its age. Even if the zipper is not original it fits in naturally and to the average observer looks like it belongs there. A fortuitous find, indeed, Andrew!:eusa_clap
As a senior CAP member in the 1980's I had the pleasure of working with cadets. As deputy commander of cadets I got to know some fine young people and see potential future leaders in the making. I also took on the job of aerospace education officer( I had been a student naval aviator in the...
Big J,
Nice artwork on the G-1's. Welcome to FL. You are destined to spend years of viewing many topics on this site. Brew a nice cup of coffee and enjoy, while sitting in your comfy chair.
It is a rather fine example of a D-1. Don't abuse it to the point where it ends up looking like Sgt. Carter's D-1 from the old [I]Hogan's Hero's[I] tv show.
Bugguy,
My i20 year old house also has asbestos wrapped around the furnace vents. As long as it is not falling off, it is best to leave it alone. It could be wrapped over with non-asbestos material if it makes you feel any better. Trying to remove it could end up being like opening Pandora's...
There is not a lot of house flipping in this rural part of the state. When we are ready to sell, given the state of the economy, we'll be happy to recoup what we paid plus what major expenses we put into our "painted lady" over the past 18 years. Our "retirement" house will be much newer and...
Some 30 years ago we had a renactment of the Japanese Pearl Harbor attack at the former Millville,NJ AAF (P-47)training base. I was aero-space education officer for our CAP squadron at the time. All the 'Jap" pilots were Americans(like the photo Stearmen posted). Some of the cadets and senior...
This "polar vortex" which has come around again can really present a challenge for keeping water pipes from freezing in vintage homes. Our 120 year old Victorian has solid brick walls, 3 courses deep. The rear wall has pipes going up to the 2nd floor bathroom. The pipes are plastered into the...
I, too have stopped "collecting" flight jackets, as I have been advancing into my 60's. I never had many at one time, but at this stage in life don't even have the opportunity to regularly wear the 4 flight jackets(one of which is nylon) I still have.
