Thanks very much for the responses, Gentlemen!! I wear a 7 LO and almost every time I buy a vintage straw, a 7 is often a bit too small but a 7 1/8 always fits right. Not the case with felts. I have owned a couple modern hats and for the most part, a size 7 fits just fine. I'm glad these straws...
VERY nice, Rick! I have been wanting to order one for myself for quite a while. Is the sweatband "Real" leather or fake particle leather? Does the hat fit true to size, smaller, or larger?
The only change I would make when I purchase mine is to swap the brown ribbon for a silver/light peach...
VERY true! I will buy a standard wood "junk" block to use as a hard backing board for the punch. That way when the punch leaves an indentation on the block, it won't matter because it will only be used for that purpose.
Thanks!
There are a couple threads dedicated to finding distributors of replacement sweatbands, but to be honest....most replacement sweatbands I see I do not like. I was buying VERY high quality natural sweatbands from Panama Bobs ebay store for a while, but it appears he has ran out. I can't...
Good thought! I was thinking that as well. Even thought this punch was probably made for Stiff felts, it will work just fine on soft hats. I was actually thinking about getting a couple of those balsa blocks or Styrofoam blocks to use as a backing. So many possibilities! :)
Thanks for posting that ad and the patent link, Bill!! I LOVE when antique items list Patent numbers. The numbers make it so much easier to find info on the product. I also find it amusing that the template is listed in the same advertisement as the sweatband initial punch......I just bought one...
AHHH, sorry I ruined it for the both of us. :eusa_doh: I was hoping at least one of us could nab that Keith Boater.
I'm absolutely ecstatic about receiving this Ventilator! I would be more than happy to Ventilate any hat you send to me :o)
Thanks!! :)
I CAN'T believe I was just able to snag this late 1800's/early 1900's C.W.T. Handy Hat Ventilator!!!!

I can finally add vent holes to those lightweight summer felts!!
Well, I wouldn't say that vintage Stetsons had invisable hat ribbon tacks. They were done far better and more towards the bottom of the ribbons edge so they would blend in better. The problem with many of the modern day hat factories is the use of plastic thread which is not only bulky, but...
