    Streamline Modern

Just spent some time in Palm Springs looking at Mid Century Modern homes. They are really great but I find myself more interested in the streamline stuff. A great example is that office building in the movie "The Two Jakes". It is somewhere near LA but I havnt been able to locate it...

    The Skipper's Hat?

It's interesting to me that there was a time when people wore specific style hats for specific activities. These day a stinking baseball cap is worn for everything. I've even seen cops wearing them. When asked about my fedoras I often say "Baseball caps are for playing baseball. I'm not...

Has the state of your hair influenced your hat wearing?

Okay, here's the thing. I am bald on top and I do where a hat more now than when I had hair. It keeps my head warm in winter and the California sun off it in summer. In the past it was BECAUSE I had hair that I didnt wear a hat more. I clip my hair right down to the scalp now but when I...

    Was brown the old black?

Great Thread Dont forget that a leather jacket wasnt always a sign of upper class cool. A leather jacket used to be a laborer's jacket. Dock workers, truck drivers etc. It was a utilitarian garment. Like a blacksmith's apron. I believe it is relatively recent in history that it became...

Henry the Hatter closing a store

What a shame. The last time I was in the Detroit store they were telling me that the Hamtamck store was a hatter that Henry's had bought. That it had been around since the 1890s or something like that. I think my memory is correct on that. Anyone have more info on that story?

    Feed sacks, who knew???

I have a blanket that my grandmother made in the 1920s or 30 that is actually made out of little tobacco sacks. They are about 7 inches in length by about 3 inches wide. There must be about a hundred of then sewn together to make up one side of this blanket. An interesting glimpse into a time...

    Tanker Jacket Stenciling

Here is how I would do it. Get some good pics of the one you want to copy. Recreate the image to the proper size. Print it out on card stock. Cut it into a stencil. Whiff a little spraymount on the backside.(Let it dry a little before laying it on the coat.) Lay it on the coat on a flat...

Motorcycle rider: where do you keep your hats?

My bike was my daily driver for over a year. I always put my fedora in a plastic shopping bag and then in my saddle bag. Worked for me.
