I think the baldness is part of our evolution. I think all man will be bald one fine day, and then they will all need a nice hat. Too bad I won't be around to see it. If you have lost your hair, you have come full circle.
Most excellent hat Tony. Good job, and certainly worth it. Is it worth it to you? That would be a hat of most favored status in any collection. I picked up a Strat like that virtually never worn. You can't go wrong. You can't really put a price on something that you can't get on the retail...
Pun-Off
I thought I would divot some time before I left my post (court martial offense), and then my wife came to visit. She has a nice rack, so I am unable to spend anymore time here. With a place like that to hang your hat, I have to pack sand!
Actually, you should pre-heat your oven to 350 degress, bake your hat for 15 minutes. Then remove the hat, steam it, and place it again in the oven (in the opposite direction) and bake an additional 15 minutes. If your hat is a vintage hat, you should have a good serving for four.
Disclaimer...
I have had great success with many hats. I steam the affected area to make the felt workable, then I take a needle or pin point and gently pull felt (hairs) up out of the whole. (Continuous steaming while working the felt is required). If that does not provide sufficient, I then pull toward...
Anything less than that and you aren't going to get much new. Heck the cheap wool felts are going for around $50. If you spend more, you are certainly going to be happier, and so will your head. We have plenty of budget hats, but quite honestly the moment you get one, if you feel you look good...
1/4 total should be fine with steam and gentleness, and time. Do do it all in one shot. Steam it, crank it a couple of foot pounds and let it sit. Then repeat when it cools and dries. Keep the stretcher in it, or it will return to it's natural size. Many recommend against stretching 1/4...
I have scored some nice vintage hats on eBay over the months gents, and I have many priced unde $100 after cleaning, etc. This includes a Stratoliner, sold one like new condition with price tag yesterday for $89! Keep an eye on the vintage section, because it's really there to generate...
The items I have listed in this thread are available in large sizes, but I do not list these sizes on the website, because not all of the colors are available in XXL or the larges sizes. Therefore, if you call to order on any of the hats I listed I will be able to tell you the colors I have...

What about hand-sewn Steven?
I have actually found that I get more wrongs righted by being polite and asking for understanding of my viewpoint. I guess it was the military leadership training believe it or not.
Hopefully it's a glue you can rub off or get out with the white gas.
No Sir, I would only suggest a product if the hat needed it. However, I do recommend frequently brushing the dust from your hat and that you have a nice stand or rack to place it on if it's worn frequently. Cleaners are only needed if it becomes very soiled. Gard-More is good to prepare it to...
In looking at the pictures, I think the "hat" looks terrific.;) Perhaps what makes you uncomfortable is the high crown and small ribbon band. Perhaps a wider ribbon band would suit you more. I believe this crown in 4.5 inches right?
I think I understood the original post also well enough to know fedora wanted reactions on the felt quality, not on how well a hat was made. I would like to see the felt, and perhaps play in the acquisition of some hoods. I also have $5.00 readily available for Matt's sample. Just let me know...
