Took this photo when I came home late last night (or better early this morning) and played around with it a bit.
I wanted to try something different lately and bought a bowtie. I think I'm finally getting the hang of tying that thing... But what's missing there is a pocket square ;)
Gene...
Somewhere in an onlineshop I saw a Panama Homburg made by Mayser and thought it looked quite good. Obviously not good enough for me to remember the website, :eusa_doh: but I'm going to look around a bit and post the link later.
I wanted to have a cheap beater hat for the summer, so I purchased an inexpensive panama at ebay. It is obviously not of the best quality but it doesn't look too bad.
I had to do some adjustments first, though. The brim was pretty much shapeless when it arrived, and the side dents were way...
Has anyone tried to apply some waterproofing spray (don't know exactly what it's called, but I guess you know what I mean) on a panama hat?
Maybe that would prevent water from pemetrating the straw...
I think the Penn is only available in Europe. I considered buying one too, but I wanted a grey one and the shop that had the hat in stock couldn't provide a picture.
This and the rave about Akubra Hats lately made me buy a Federation IV instead... no regrets so far ;)
Personally, I wouldn't wear a hat like this with a shirt like that. But then again, I wouldnt wear a shirt like that at all ;)
With celebrities, I think it's like "Anything goes".
The brim of his hat is too flat for my taste, but it works for him.
The best Johnny Depp movie in my opinion is...
I used a standard electric plastic kettle for creasing my Fed.
Possibly not the best tool for the job, but I discovered that if I open the kettle's lid just slightly, it produces much more steam and the automatic shutoff doesn't work anymore... Don't know how that works, but I like it :D
Thank you all for the hints and compliments!
Torpedo, I tried lowering the front v and I like it a lot, it makes the front of the hat more distinct.
Do you have any directions on curling up the brim a little? I'm not sure if I can give it a nice and even shape by just steaming it and...
I consider this my first "real" hat. It's awesome. Compared to the Fed, my cheap hat feels like a piece of cloth.
The delivery took three and a half weeks to me. German customs are slow, and they charged me 20 Euros (about 27 USD) for it. Anyway, this hat is absolutely worth it.
I tried dry...
I'd be careful with hydrogen peroxide. It could bleach the straw and leave a spot that is lighter than the rest of the hat.
I once spilled some hydrogen peroxide on a black jeans and ended up with white stains :eusa_doh:
My Moonstone Fed IV Deluxe arrived today! I'm happy like a kid at Christmas. I made a first attempt at a teardrop bash and it looks quite convincing.
Will post pics soon.
One thing I'd like to add-
When you finally get a hat that you like, don't be too critical with how it looks on you at first sight. You will most likely need some time to get used to the looks of it.
At least thats what I thought some time ago. When I put on my first hat and looked into the...
I've got the same problem, but with me it's not hat-related, it's camera-related.
I just can't look into a lens and smile naturally.
I remember a Friends episode where Chandler had the same problem... almost laughed my *** off :D
Hey JT,
that's interesting to read, as I've always thought that a Homburg was as stiff as a bowler. But then again, the only time I ever held one in my hands was when I was five years old or so... seemed pretty hard to me back then :D
