I watched the 2 series of Peaky Blinders fairly recently - a month or two back. It is set in the early 1920s following the end of the First World War. Lots of talk of the IRA and Communism. Despite being set in the 1920s the show doesn't actually use period clothing as such - I remember watching...
I do tend to go once a month - however it is really pushing the boundaries of the cut by then; most of what makes it such a nice cut is lost in little over two weeks. I'd go more often but on the student budget I can't really afford to. I have no concerns with this current cut although I am...
I don't suppose anyone can recommend any non-slicked period hair cuts for men?
I have thick, Asian type hair (grows outwards rather than down) which grows very quickly - My current hairstyle (see above) grows out very quickly and while I like it - it does end up costing a lot of money to maintain.
Cheers. Just a pair of modern, polished black trench boots. Unfortunately I don't have enough space in my Student accommodation to take a full body shot.
Nothing too special but it is my first post in this thread.
Worn for the last day (Yesterday) of the International Sea Shanty Festival down here in Falmouth. Grey Henley shirt, locally made leather belt - I thoroughly recommend the couple who do them to anyone down this neck of the woods - and...
Thanks for sharing!
I sometimes forget how relatively modern some of the clothing of the time looked, looking primarily at your Grandfather's top in this shot.
Hey, Retro S.
I reckon a nice pair of Khaki pants would look great with that shirt for a summer look if you have a pair or can find one! I love the shirt by the way, it's a look that i'd be far too timid to pull off myself.
Hello all,
I'm still fairly new here and have only minimal experience when it comes to identifying period clothing. One of the biggest things I struggle with is identifying period-appropriate patterned fabric when I'm looking through clothes. I always assumed to veer towards plain fabrics but...
Picked up this FINK Clothing shirt in a charity shop the other day.
I don't imagine the design is particularly period appropriate but it is the closest thing I've found to a spearpoint collared shirt as of yet.
I'll try and get a better photograph of the shirt when I have time.
I just did various image searches online and mainly used sights like this: http://www.regimentalshop.com/shop/products/101-Regimental-Ties-for-British-Army-Regiments/ to search out designs - be aware though, not all sites have all the designs - this one for example doesn't have the design I was...
It might seem an odd question but were Collarless shirts an actual design in themselves, as in - were there any shirts designed as Collarless, rather than simply being an interchangeable collar shirt without a removable collar attached?
That would be a collarless shirt without the included...
Finally got the much needed haircut. There is a great barbers in my town run by a couple of young guys who always pull off these really sharp cuts for just a tenner.
Basically had a less severe version of a cut I previously had where my sides were a no1 fade to no2 up to the part, this one...
Some new charity shop buys.
Starting with the one I believe to be the oldest:
Llyod's De Luxe Quality. Terylene.
Carmine Red, Jet Grey and Silver.
4" at its widest, and 49" long.
Tootal Gold Quality. Polyester.
Silver, Black and Green
3.5" at its widest, 53" long.
Late...
I don't know what the styles were like in America, but I do a lot of work on old photographs dating from the 1910s to the 1950s and from what I've seen of haircuts, you can get away with pretty much anything as long as it isn't too obviously modern. Pretty much any classic barber shop will be...
I came across a few of Tootal products in a charity shop today, two 'Gold Quality' polyester ties and a scarf which seemed to be labled: "Image", but with "by Tootal" in small at the corner of the label.
I didn't have my measuring tape on me so I couldn't check out the length or width of the...
Some potentially interesting links:
1930s Mugshots from the North of England. Mostly headshots but some show clothing.

Early Edwardian Mugshots - A lot more clothing visible in these older shots...
