I am posting this one introduction hear because it seems not many people read the merchant section. I am a new sponsor of the board.

Some of you here know about me, here is some more info. For those who do not, Hi.
My name...
When you go down two sizes, the felt is still that much bigger than your head and it shows. Hats can be resized by a hatter. The felt can be shrunk, the sweat band cut down, and the ribbon reattached.

To turn a homburg into a fedora takes all of 2 to 3 hours, including flanging.
Have the right shackle iron is a big help (I have only seen the one I own).

Not ever cowboy bought a new hat, no. Probably not even a third. I was just making the point that they would have the money to buy a good one when they bought one.
Why hats were sold open and flat, they had no stiffener. As far as I know long and round ovals did not come in until hats...
Cowboys had a great deal of money, for a short period of time. During the cattle drive they were paid nothing, at the end of the drive they were paid a great deal. A cowboy would buy new clothes, any new tack that may need to be replaced, and a new hat if needed before he went to the saloons...
there are a couple of custom hatters in Colorado. I am pretty sure there is one in Vail, dont know the name. There is Ofarrels in Durango. I believe they both specialize in Western hats, but worth a shot.

Here are two more pics.
By the way, I can now say -
I AM A SPONSOR!!!!
Watch for my banner. I will put up a post with more info about myself in the merchants section as soon as I can.

I decided I needed a new hat, something other than my normal natural beaver.
I decided on Navy Beaver, with medium brown ribbons.
Here it is. No, the color is not spotty. I am still trying to figure out how to photograph hats.

Price has always been a problem with barons. Setson used to have almost the exact same hat in their line (minus the bound edge) called a royal flush I believe. I still have people ask for customs on that one, but probably not enough for them to start making it again.
Jimmy
I made this one recently.
I made it with a 4 1/2 inch brim and crown. The original was reportedly both 4 inches.
I am no working on some with no stiffener, as the originals were made.

I bought that machine. It is being mounted on a base and being cleaned at the moment. when I get it back I have to figure out how to operate it, and find needles for it.

My Dad found this old Bradford with a Cavanagh edge in an antique store. It was a size seven and was a bit chewed up. So I turned the back to the front and resized it to a 6 1/2 (the smallest block I have) and it is still a bit big, but he likes to wear it.
Jimmy
I too have a weakness for the old machines, aside from this one I have a 108 for my bound edges, an a 29k60 long arm machine for leather patching(which is still tredle operated).
I hope to get it cleaned up and running to use on my beaver fedoras.
If I get it running well I dont see why I...
