I'm not about getting play (married next summer!) but I definitely get more attention/glances/smiles since I've started wearing fedoras full time. And from ladies who would have been outta my league when I was still on the market.
I don't really do a full vintage thing, but choose fairly...
Unless you've got a waitstaff or a full time homemaker spouse, there's a place for formal, and there's a place for less formal.
The latter doesn't have to be take-out boxes and paper plates, though.
And none of the above preclude sitting down at the same table at the same time.
I dunno... shots are always less of a committment than full bottles of anything, and I think it's good to identify extremes first within each category of spirits to find what you like most, then try the range within that category, from budget to top shelf. Better use of your dollar.
I'm new to the felt hat world, but I've found a cheap clothes steamer works great.
Just get it hot and damp and mold it. As it cools it holds shape and stays where you put it.
It's a nice hat and you pull it off well! Might consider a band/nehru collar with that, that's the traditional alpine style. That also ensures the hat can't be something that can be mistaken for a joke/"ironic" statement but is clearly part of a look.
As an Austrian I've had them since I was...
funny writing, and he's seen the show.
But anyone who cares that much about other people's fashion choices had better have a team of professionals to dress him.
here's the author, btw.
Anyone feel like writing a scathing counterarticle about how it shouldn't really be okay for grown men to...
They aren't bad, but the ones with embroidery on em are ugly. I own a couple, nothing wrong with a fun, cheap stingy hat.
Shame is they are a fad, like 'trucker hats' so I expect them to disappear and kill any fedora resurgence in the process. Could be a good thing.
People don't know how to wear...
Not if it's straight pomade like murrays, etc. (imagine lighting vaseline and beeswax on fire?)
Vitalis, or any of the alcohol based tonics are potentially flammable out of the bottle. Never tested it on a head, though.
Put the hat down and back away slowly, fella.
Seriously though, why not just buy a brand new hat and do that to it? You'll make back the money, considering a fine 50's hat will only get more valuable. There's less and less of em in the world everyday.
I think you'll be sorry in a few years if...
I'd recommend you find a good bar, a different one each week, and get your shots neat in an old fashioned glass. Avoid weekends so you can spread out and have some peace to concentrate. Find a nice booth, and sip em, roll em around in your mouth, and just try stuff. Don't forget to tip a buck...
I've had some good homemade stuff before, with plenty of thujone (or so I was told.)
I don't buy the 'hallucinations' either (van gogh probably owed that to chronic toxicity from his paints) but there is one thing I definitely noticed —
you can drink it all night long and still be pretty sharp...
