good day loungers, it was my 27th birthday on the 8th, and i got some birthday money. Well i went down to old town springs in houston texas, and went to the hat shop, found a few hats there, especially a lot of scala hats. The lady who owns the shop did the fitting for the movie changling. It was a funny experience, i saw this hat way up on the shelf and it was an indian jones hat made out of canvas, she thought it looked great on me. But anyways i'm rambling i left the shop with nothing in hand, because i didn't have that much birthday money on me. So i went a street over to another favorite shop called The German Shop. I went in with my wife, and we looked around, well up on top they had there hats, i picked up the first one and it fit my head. I have wanted one of these hats for over a year now. When something like this happens to me its destined to be the right time. The lady who works there said i looked really good in it, and i debated for about 5 minutes and bought the hat. I didn't realise until after i bought the hat that i had enough to buy pins, so i bought two eidelweiss pins for the hat as well. This German shop has handmade nutcrackers, jewelry, traditional hats, and hat pins and feathers. I will be buying my feather very soon. So here is my new hat, it is unbelievably comfortable.

i don't know how to make the photo show on the fedora lounge, but this is my photo album link. I spent 35 dollars for this fur felt hat, plus 8 dollars for the two pins, the tradional feather is 16, so i'll be back for that. If anyone is in houston, you need to go to OLD TOWN SPRINGS, and check out the hat shop. As well as the German shop if your interested in these type of hats.

Nice hat! I have a pretty old, fairly worn and beat up hat that resembles the shape, it's a Tyrolean, right? I believe the story goes that my great grandfather bought it while vacationing in either one of these three countries; Germany, Austria, or Switzerland, and he left it on a train, only realizing a while later. Well, he was able to find it again, after searching, fortunately. It's probably a wool one though, and I'm not sure how old it actually is. It might have been bought during the 1970s.

Sorry, I can ramble on... I hope you had a great birthday, and enjoy your gift here, you look good in it!

thanks guys, and great story, i think its wonderful you have a story to go along with the hat. I believe your right on the name. by the way rambling on is okay, i do it all the time. :)

JB if you could get photos of your hat i'd really like to see it? Birthday was fun, when you get the chance to go hat shopping, and actually get time to look and try on i'd have to say eventful.

Sure thing! I just realized how bad the condition is, though... it's wildly misshapen and floppy looking.

The size tag:

This appears to be remnants of the now-gone leather sweat band:

What might have been a company logo, may have been stitched here once:

As you can see, it's not really wearable... this hat has seen much better days. At the very least, I rescued it by placing it inside my closet, rather than leaving it where I found it; inside of a full, cluttered clothes drawer, where it must have been bent out of shape for some time.

It's a nice hat and you pull it off well! Might consider a band/nehru collar with that, that's the traditional alpine style. That also ensures the hat can't be something that can be mistaken for a joke/"ironic" statement but is clearly part of a look.

As an Austrian I've had them since I was very young, but only wear them in the mountains. As you probably know, you add pins for each mountain you hike on the "outdoors" versions, but not on the dress hats. Usually that's decorated minimally, with something like a bristle spray.

FYI you've got kind of a young Sinatra look, you know that? I'm guessing you do by your avatar, but regardless he might be a guy to inform your hat choices. I believe Cavanaugh was his lid of choice.

Welcome to the FL.

where would i be able to buy a traditional hat band for my hat? I didn't know the story behind the pins, so definately a cool history lesson. I've never been told i look like Frank Sinatra, i will have to look into that style of hat. I don't wear the german hat very much due to the heat, but i will wear it at oktoberfest. I'm looking forward to that event. Thanks for all the compliments.
