My bf Tom practicing at his 1942 piano in his 1941 house. Wearing his new-to-him vintage midnight blue Hollywood waist trousers, that were an early bday gift from me in time for our upcoming trip to Catalina Island for the Avalon Ball:
computer was down for the count part of last week, so this is from 5/1.

Thank you for the encouraging words, Lee. Tom is quite interested in the vintage idea in general, just have to tread lightly and slowly. The details and fabrics really intrigue him especially, as the vintage clothing and accessories were so exquisitely done.
Picked up today; two 1930s ties, one cream colored early 1940s l/s gabardine shirt, one pale lime green linen/cotton s/s shirt, one cravat, one scarf, and a set of formal suspenders. Will post pics soon.
My bf Tom has been needing to update and add to his small wardrobe of ties. Getting two pairs of vintage Hollywood waist trousers recently warranted a trip to CityVintage to look for a couple of 30s or 40s ties. Got two 1930s beauties, my computer is out for repair- will post pics when I get it...
Picked up a vintage ascot and a vintage scarf too for my bf Tom today. On him, they look very Ronald Colman. The scarf can also be worn with his midnight blue DB tuxedo. Bought from my favourite vintage dealers in So. San Francisco. My Mac is out for repair, using my dd's laptop for the interim...
One of my favourite bits about the tuxedo, as opposed to tails came from an episode of "Downton Abbey". Its the 20s now, and Lord Grantham shows up for dinner in the "new'' fashion- a tuxedo instead of the requisite tails. Dowager Countess Maggie Smith makes the snide remark, "I'm so sorry, I...
:)
But don't get me wrong, I love their clothes! I recently counted the number of RL and RL Chaps items are in my own closet, I was surprised at how many.
just snagged a pair of high waisted RL trousers for my Bf last week on the evilBay, they are in transit. Will let you know how they look and fit when they arrive.
Not surprising in that my favourite vintage dealer in the San Francisco area have said that Ralph Lauren has bought their vintage garments and copied them.
I think my two guys have no pocket squares either for other jackets, but apparently the folded white cotton handkerchief in the pocket is de rigueur for formalwear...
last night (Sunday): A quiet night of all four of us staying in. My bf practiced some piano, my dd did homewok, my ds watched an online movie, and I did a little front garden weeding before it got dark.
tonight: I had a tap class in San Mateo, my two teenagers are together at a Beginning Argentine Tango class in SF, and my bf had a piano lesson right after work, and is now visiting his Mom in SF. Right now, I'm cooking up some dinner for myself!
Hello Jack Patch and thanks! Both the vintage DB tux (this is one of the two vintage DB tuxedos my bf got) and the vintage complete white tie and tails ensemble are from the same vintage dealers, Roberto and Jula Isola of CityVintage of South San Francisco.
Interesting. What makes this semi-formal?
My vintage dealer told us to wear a wing collar with this peak lapel DB tuxedo, and the turn down collar with the shawl lapel DB tuxedo.
SteveAS, you need to tell a florist you want a single white carnation with the long stem ONLY. Tell them that IS what you want, not a boutonnière. Out here, a single carnation is $2.00. Then you cut the stem shorter yourself after, maybe an inch and a quarter long.
Oh, you also need a white...
