Listening to a bunch of Jack Scott today, among other early 1960s stuff.
This is probably my favourite song of his:

1949 Addison radio, model 55
I recently found and purchased this cool old plastic radio at a sale (Early February, 2010).
Didn't try it out to see if it works.
As you may already know, it's actually better that way - replace the capacitors first and you don't burn out anything...
Thanks for the heads-up about where I can find new bumper material. I'm sure it would probably take a lot of searching and comparing to find that information out.
I don't think mine needs to be replaced though, the bumper hasn't gone brittle yet, still has a lot of flexibility.
Wow, thanks guys. :)
Didn't know I was going above and beyond the norm for fixing a vacuum.
By no means am I a pro, but I do feel more comfortable tinkering around with these things since fixing up my old Beatty "Cadillac" cleaner.
Progress! The motor is back together again after I...
Thanks a bunch Forgotten Man! :)
It has been a lot of fun for me so far, digging into this old contraption, discovering how it works and hopefully making it perform like it used to.
I can't wait to get it completed, but as always many other things are getting in the way of the project...
Cleaning the Canadian Hoover 118 begins
Hi again,
Yesterday I disassembled the Hoover to give it a proper cleaning and motor lubrication.
The only real big problem I experienced while taking it apart was in removing the bakelite motor housing from the cast aluminum front piece that...
Sure, I'll be happy to post some 'after' photos here.
I'm dreading to clean it because I don't want to damage the painted finish, polishing the bare aluminum of the other vacuum now seems so much easier.
Also, somebody in the house must have painted the room while this vacuum was nearby...
Seems that way. Although it's difficult to tell with these because many companies were using ancient ones well into the 1960s. They're built like a brick outhouse so they were put in service for a long time.
My Mom used to work for an inventory company that would travel to businesses and...
Hoover Canada "Junior" model 118 vacuum
Hi guys,
I bought this 1951 Hoover Canada vacuum cleaner at a local contents sale, nobody else really showed any interest in it.
These photos were taken before I began to clean the dirt away.
Promised myself I wouldn't take another vacuum cleaner...
You can say that again! A wonderful job scotrace. :eusa_clap
I want to give my Beatty vacuum another polish to get out the tarnish on a few problem areas - maybe I'll try a few of the ones that you used.
Hi John, thanks.
I added the burner and chimney in the above photos, which is why I wasn't sure of the original way it was used.
The burner threaded in perfectly so it was probably the same configuration, as far as I know.
Cool thread,
I was given this figural oil lamp a while back, not sure if it used kerosene or not. Guessing it's from the 1890s, but they made this style of lamp for many years.
Would it be considered a banquet lamp? I thank you in advance for any help or shared knowledge about this.
The...
lol
I'm guessing that you won the duel because you're still able to type! Although, I think the Hoover would beat the Packard as far as cleaning power goes...
That is probably now the cleanest area rug in North America.
Great pics.
I've loved the ones created by Demetre Chiparus for quite some time now, yet I don't own any statue that even remotely looks like one of his.
There is a very broad price range for reproductions, the better ones can break most personal budgets; that easily includes mine.
I don't feel too...
Great stuff pictured here! :eusa_clap
I have a few, used to have more but recently sold two of them off to make way for other items. You can see them all here.
All of them operate well, since buying my first one about 15 years ago I've learned how to rebuild the reproducers myself and also...
