I love the deco/moderne styling of these 1930s/40s reverse silk screened glass photo frames - I just wish that I had more space on the tops of tables to display them.
Found the two frames on the left at a yard sale in late June of 2009, where I bought three in total for 75 cents.
The frame...
Well, this repair guy seems to be one of those repair people that like the oldies; his face 'lit up' a little when I told him what I wanted fixed.
I've now also heard a lot of great things about him from people I know: they all agree he is a good honest person - which is very important when...
My idea so far:
The Spaceburbs
Or, just simply Spaceburb
Suburban areas of housing expanded rapidly during the boom of the '50s, maybe 'urban sprawl' pushes humans out into "the final frontier" by the 2050s?
Think it fits the parameters of your theme.
Addition: June 30
If all the...
Yep, they could hear me far far away! I was very happy to see this. I want to visit that archive building soon and buy some good image scans of a few of the photos and brochures.
btw, there's actually three of my addictions in that photo. ;)
The madness continues..... another detail added to that little obsession of mine.
I photoshopped a couple of real Western Union Telegrams from the 40s to create this fake Telegram based on the one that Mr. Parker (The Old Man) received in the movie. It informed him that he won "A Major...
That Airway vacuum you posted is just incredible, love the airplanes on that bag!
Well, this thread you created has definately 'sucked' my interest back to the Beatty Bros. vacuum cleaner I have. It made me visit a vacuum cleaner dealer / repair spot in the plaza where I work today. Thanks...
Some great insights on Murrow's career. :eusa_clap
Thought I knew who he was before I posted this thread but now realize I hardly knew anything about him. Thanks everyone.
Great!
Fits extremely well in that period living room of yours, I love that photo you took. :eusa_clap
Maybe this guy can help you find the missing bits and pieces you need?

I don't know if he sells off parts he uses for restoration, but it...
Have you seen this or this video of a Hoover 700 on Youtube? Kinda cool!
FM, I feel like I should quote a movie character on the neat old typical household stuff here - Belloq or Noah Cross?
Belloq: "Look at this. It's worthless - ten dollars from a vendor in the street. But I take...
It already looks amazing FM, no need to apologize about how clean it is. :eusa_clap
I also like that you've gone into the history of the features of this vacuum, I love to search that information out whenever I find a cool old item. Adds so much more to collecting.
*GranadaGuy617: Yep...
Knew I had this 78 record somewhere.... took me a little time to find it among the pile - I really do need to index my records.
It has two of the songs played on the Victory Tower's new set of Carillon Bells during celebration ceremonies for the 60th Anniversary of Canada's Confederation in...
Amazing epr25!!! :eusa_clap You're a true die hard ACS fan... wonder if I'll ever go that far to recreate the movie experience?
Thanks for giving me the heads-up on the pics, would love to see more. I'll look for your other thread too.
Thanks a bunch Wolf,
I checked the decoder and no, it doesn't work with the message announcer Pierre Andre relayed to Ralphie. The movie is edited so you don't hear Pierre say all the numbers, I got mine by looking at Ralphie's paper. Not sure of every number because Ralphie's left hand...
Thanks for the insight Flivver, I didn't know very much about these radios. Hope I find one someday soon for my antenna and it comes with the peanut tubes... they can be very pricey these days!
"Skeet" - You're very welcome, glad you enjoyed the clips. Hmmm, us Canadians have an accent, eh? ;)
I found this YouTube clip of one of the "I can hear it now..." recordings.
The audio isn't the greatest, but it gives you an idea of how Murrow narrates the records. Sorry the Hindenburg isn't on this one.

Interesting topic, cool. I don't think I've seen a tree like that in Ontario, Canada, but I'll keep my eyes peeled now that I know.
These look to be the same tapering shape as a steel needle, as long as the reproducer head is at roughly a 45 degree angle it appears it would play just great...
I was amazed to have found this twelve-inch 78 rpm record album set from 1948 at a thrift shop in the summer of 2008 in great condition.
Thought I'd share it here, maybe someone in the Lounge will like to say something about their recollections of Murrow or comment on this record set?
The...
Hi shortbow, thanks, I have.
The Canadian distributor of the "A Christmas Story" House museum gift shop is only a 30 minute drive from my house. I called them and they accept local pickups, very cool.

The downside is, they don't have the full size one in...
I believe it was Canadian National Railways that started really spreading the broadcast of radio here, but the CNR was started by the Canadian government, made up of struggling railways that were amalgamated to form it. The CBC was hatched soon after and the CNR stations held less prominence...
