After reading through the thread, this seems to be mainly an issue with Aero jackets -- is that a correct surmation?
Can anyone say if this happens with AL jackets?
This wasn't an issue on my last jacket at all, although I don't think it used an extra piece of leather in construction of the...
Hmm, thanks for that. I thought the difference was primarily aesthetic.
Would you say the AL leather is less durable than non jerky horse hide? If so, to what extent?
You obviously disagree, could you elaborate on why?
I'm new to these companies and trying to peice it all together, and it...
Thanks Guys,
I am pretty seriously considering Alexander leather jackets at the moment.
I like their styles a lot, I am particularly fond of their Jerky Horsehide, and they have been very friendly so far and willing to do customizations.
Would anyone have any general thoughts on Alexander...
Does anyone know a good resource where I can learn the different styles and the decades they correspond to?
As I research and try to decide I'm getting overwhelmed with a lot of names and decades that I'm finding hard to look up and compare.
It would be good to have a general reference point...
Hi Don, Thanks for your input.
I'm still looking and considering. I'm against 50's or any retro styles, I just wasn't particularly taken with any of the models on the Aero homepage...it didn't match what I had in mind and I've seen mixed things about how far I can take customizations.
I'm in...
OK, thanks!
I couldn't find it on the filmjacket site...must be right under my nose but I can't see it.
I do like the look...going to look into jerky horse as you suggest.
Budget is around, ideally, $600 - $800 USD, but willing to go higher if I think it is worthwhile
And to remove the front flap pockets and just have handwarmer pockets, and to perhaps add a yoke (as I like the style)..
I will email Aero, just curious if those mods would be too far.
I think a lot of the jackets from that time are beautiful. But I don't see too many longer (at least 28") jackets from that time with zips and without breast pockets.
Anything you could suggest in line with that fro Aero?
But for the moment I am indeed looking at Johnson and Vanson
Thanks...
Thank you everybody for continuing advice and suggestions.
The more I look into it I don't think Aero is the company for me. I don't really want to be limited to replicas of specific 20's/30's/40's/50's jackets, which is what they seem to do.
While I'm sure their garments are quality, I don't...
I am looking more into Aero jackets.
One issue seems to be that there entire line is based on faithfully recreating past styles...They don't seem too willing to create modern styles.
How willing are they to do customization? There are some jackets I like, but would want a pocket removed, or...
I didn't think it was hard to understand, but let me clarify.
The first thread was asking for some suggestions on styles, and I gave several examples of what I like.
This jacket was the most prominent example however.
The discussion became more about Schott vs Aero and some other stuff...
This is a jacket from filmjackets.com
I'm not buying a jacket from them, but I do like the look/texture of this jacket.
Would anyone have an idea what type of leather this is?
Is the look due to the type of leather used, or because it's broken in or..something else?
The last jacket I had was lightweight, and I definitely want something fairly lightweight again.
I want to be able to wear it over just a tshirt when it's warmer such as in autumn or over a sweatshirt/hoody or even another coat when it's warmer.
Are all of the Aero jackets quite heavy?
Does...
Thanks for the replies guys.
So the thing is...I don't know much about any of this stuff.
I know I like a leather jackets...I wore my last one for 8 years.
I know I want to get a good quality design that I'm happy to wear for the next 10 years.
I probably won't want several, so i want to...
Why is it the least of them? No one seems to have elaborated on why they are not at the same standard as Aero ro Johnson or vanson.
Are there things you can list to quantify why it isn't up to the same standard?
My last leather jacket was from Roger David in Australia...I guess it would maybe...
Hi all,
Hoping this doesn't count as duplication, as I am after some specific thoughts on this particular jacket.
What are peoples thoughts on the Schott 662?
The things I like about it:
The length, it's 28". I like something that goes below my waist.
The cut on the front. I...
I'm not, it's just that as I said, this is the first time I've come accross anyone saying the Schott is that much lower quality.
I mean, I've been doing a lot of research the last 2 weeks, reading many threads and such, and I haven't come accross anyone speaking so lowly of the Schott before...
Well that's the thing. Price isn't always an indicator of quality.
A lot of the time the more expensive stuff isn't necessarily any better quality than the moderately priced equivalent, it's just marketing and demographics.
Is an Armani undershirt which costs 4 times as much as an Old Navy...
Now that's interesting.
You are the first person I have seen say this, and I've been doing a lot of research the last few weeks combing through threads on this forum and many others.
Most people have nothing but high praise for Schott...which makes sense. I mean I can see there being a reason...
