Brown wool felt bowler on eBay (size 58)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290430542833 I posted some pictures and information at http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showpost.php?p=1001077&postcount=442 if you're interested. Would be a great buy for anyone who likes smaller stingier hats, or anyone who wouldn't mind...

Which ribbon treatment do you like better on this hat?

Agreed, I love wide ribbons but the one Razzman's contemplating just seems too big for the hat.

    The Bowler or Derby Hat

Funnily enough, my truly vintage bowler (and first real felt hat) was a present from her. She seems to have a knack for bowlers...

    The Bowler or Derby Hat

My mother in law was at a car boot sale today and found a brown bowler. She phoned me and asked if she should buy it and I said yes. Unfortunately it's not my size, wool felt (I think) and has a short crown. Despite the wool felt it is super stiff - more than my vintage fur bowler. I think I...

    A warning to fellow thrifters

There was a green Savile Row 3 piece Harris Tweed at Hornets the last time I went. It was just a bit too big everywhere, including the shoulders, except the trouser legs, which were incredibly short. Such a pity.

    Should I match my overcoat?

I generally match my hat to my overcoat as it makes sense - it's pretty much all you see as outerwear, and you take both off at the same time.

What do you use to shave?

I have been using Proraso (the tube kind) for ages, but recently my wife bought me some Crabtree & Evelyn soap. Came in a wooden bowl. Overall I prefer the Proraso, but the convenience of the Crabtree makes it great when I'm in a hurry.

    Obsolete Occupations

We have at least one cobbler in Lund (pop 75000). They may also make new shoes however, I'm not entirely certain.. It's one of the few stores like that I've come across in Sweden, though. I don't even know where to find a tailor in Lund!

    Homburg Nation

It is, I forgot to mention it. Probably because we've had snow for 5 months and the concept of summer has been lost upon me. ;)

Please help me with formalwear for my wedding...

I thought that might be a possibility, but it looks so horrendously ugly unless the elbow is bent to at least (roughly) a 60 degree angle. Although, as I said it's too large for me (I bought it as a potential for a somewhat huge friend), so the arms look terrible regardless.

    Boating Blazers

The "tux" thing (It winds me up the wrong way when people call tails a tux!) is mostly a US thing, I think. I've never known anyone in the UK (or Sweden since I moved here) refer to non-black tie as a "tux", although the term "tux" is something I've rarely heard in real life, except on TV.

Please help me with formalwear for my wedding...

I need to post pictures of the very strange arm on another morning coat I found. The inner arm seam is straight, but the outer arm has an extreme angle to it (circumference of 30cm at the cuff, about 35cm at the shoulder, and approaching 50cm at the elbow. The only way it doesn't wrinkle with...

Please help me with formalwear for my wedding...

My frock coat and morning coat are constructed almost exactly the same (but, as I bought them at the same place, same time, and they have the same fit, I think they were owned by the same person). The shoulder seams on both goes from the left/right of the neck, but goes at an extreme angle...

    Boater faction!

Actually, if it was Christys, Christys' is acceptable (although not preferred by all). Aah yes, the grocer's apostrophe. It's not a British thing (indeed, there are only a few places in the entire US that are named with an apostrophe, while it's more common in the UK to have an apostrophe in...

    Loungers' Pets

She sounds just like Cookie. Here's a few pictures of her (and our other cat, Semla, who is an eternal kitten, and a real runt, so she looks the part, too) - Cookie first (with a slight look of contempt - my wife cut off the arms on a sweater where they were too long, and turned them into cat...

    Loungers' Pets

Marlene looks so freakishly like my older she-cat Cookie. I don't just mean "ooh, another black cat", but the body shape, the look in the eyes, the whisker length..

    Formal Wear Primer

There was a previous thread that turned into a several hundred post discussion about notch lapels during the golden era. I think they were just joking around now. :)

    Retro-extremists? What are we called?

Regarding "manly men", the modern concept of "manliness" was created when homosexuality started being more public knowledge, and not quite so illegal (at least in the UK). Men didn't want to be branded as a homosexual, so they stopped doing anything "feminine" or with other men. In the Victorian...

    Retro-extremists? What are we called?

Oh, the right/left scale is absolutely useless nowadays, but going by generally accepted standards, at least in the UK, fascism is far right. It generally ignores economic views and focuses almost purely on social views, and Nazism was extremely right wing socially. The Nazi wiki page is...
