I know I posted way back at the beginning of this thread, but my circumstances have changed, so I figured I'd comment again.
The comments I get are similar to yours, Shirt. Always complementary, but they think I am dressed up for something really special. The difference between San...
Oh no, I haven't! I'm a very recent Rhode Islander. I'll have to check it out ... hopefully they have some virgin tiki drinks I can drink until I can do the regular ones again. I have a friend in Boston who is very into the Tiki scene. I'll have to ask her if she knows it -- although she's...
I love Tiki, but the only tiki I have at home is a mug from Forbidden Island. We definitely have some 1950's pieces that would work great with tiki decor though. Forbidden Island and Tonga Room are so much fun!! I really miss living in SF...
Thanks for looking into it! Even if we don't have an answer yet, I know a lot more than I started out knowing about it. :) Which is always good. I'll have to sign up and post over at the antique radio forum at some point.
Well, I turned it around and opened it up. Apparently, it had been awhile since I looked at the back because I didn't remember that the tag actually says "Cabinet by Stromberg-Carlson". I couldn't find anything that was obviously a model number inside. I took some pics -- maybe someone else...
Thanks, RetroToday. :) I suspect you're right. While they did a splendid job making the radio and cabinet match and look like they were built as one, I've never been able to find a cabinet anything at all similar to this by Stromberg-Carlson in my search. I'll have to open up the back again...
Dandelion, Super cute dress!
Thanks, Lareesie!
Thanks, Odalisque! hehe... I'll keep your offer in mind if another friend who offered to babysit it falls through. ;) I love your finds too! I never can find vintage jeans long enough for me. I heart Freddies of Pinewood repros -- can't get...
I think the only things I've ruined were pieces that had issues I was trying to fix to start with. I had a late 30's suit with a jacket with major BO issues -- not from me, it came to me that way. :p Anyway, after trying all sorts of things to get the smell out (dry cleaning just made it...
Here are a couple of our favourites. The first is a Philco 46-1226 from 1946. We don't know if it works -- 1.) because the cord is frayed and 2.) I read an article about a year ago that put the fear into me about testing old radios without doing some of the work that's been mentioned earlier...
I wasn't saying Kenley's hip-hop design was great...although, I'm not really one to judge hip-hop. I think that if you end up in the bottom two, the judges and whoever else is deciding take your history in past shows into account as well. Suede had been at the bottom more times than Kenley...
I would agree that Kenley definitely needs to learn how to take constructive criticism gracefully while still defending her work in a way that doesn't insult others.
However, in my opinion, she is still the most interesting designer on the show. You have to remember that when it came down...
Wow! There is so much amazing artwork in here. I love your self portrait as a Victorian, Lady Day. I work in photoshop creating virtual clothing for Second Life avatars. Retro is actually quite popular in SL. This is some of my work:
I love that hat, Red Hot Riding Hood! So cute!
I bought a skirt today on ebay... yeah, I can't wear it for like 5 more months, but it was a pretty good deal for one of these painted circle skirts, and I just love the colours.
Exactly. I always have a hard time when people that don't know what the periods look like but want to help me find patterns when they go thrifting ask me what to look for. You really just have to have a feel for the periods and what they look like. A sorta general guide I usually tell them is...
