Ok, I just got to know. Why is there no Project Runway thread in the lounge and why have we not elected Kenley as Woman of the Year?

Is their something going on the The Powder Room that the rest us can't see?

exactly.

her -attitude- makes her so unattractive...that no amount of pseudo-old fashioned clothing design.....would make me want to emulate -her-.....

Manners are way more important then the style of the dress...and she lacks them. ;)

I've liked several of her designs. Her clothes have been interesting and well made and I think she should have won a more of the challenges than she has. I'm afraid that the judges are discounting her vintage inspired designs simply because of the way she dresses, thinking that she's a one trick pony.

As for her attitude, I don't find it as abrasive as others seem to. To me, Kenley is a typical geek. She makes her own choices and has the moxie to defend them. She has probably dealt with the same snide comments and attitudes that all the rest of us have because we dress and act a little differently that everyone else. Like most geeks she is socially awkward and defensive when dealing with unwarranted criticism from people who don't understand what she is trying to say. This threatens the more mundane designers and so they have united against her, just because she's different. The way the other three designers are treating her now reminds me of a high school clique where the "cool kids" are picking on "the weird kid". The judges have not been much better.

This is just what I've seen from the clips that they have shown on TV. There may be other things happening behind the scenes that explain why Kenley has been ostracized by the others on the show, but from where I stand I don't think that she really deserves it. To me, it's an inspiration that a vintage loving geek has made it as far into the show as she has and I'm rooting for her to go all the way and win.

villains & winners

Frankly, Im surprised Kenley wasnt eliminated in the episode where she had to design a Hip-Hop outfit for a fellow contestant. And she was all ready to blame the other contestant for not walking the outfit w/ the right attitude.

As stated at the end of episodes, results are chosen by the Judge's scores as well as the Producers. She's there for the drama & the villainy now.

If you look at that episode, she is so quick to defend her designs, she doesnt accept input from others.

I've noticed that TimGunn generally gives the contestants excellent advice & guidance. Its all constructive criticism. Kenley threw a littl tantrum. It was unfortunate & indicative that she cant win the contest.

I do have to agree with you there. The one rule of Project Runway is "Tim Gunn is always right." Time and time again we have seen those who don't take Tim's suggestions get eliminated. I am surprised that Kenley has been able to buck this trend and stay in the running while discarding Tim's advice.

Y'know, I only remember him being off once. One of those early seasons where they were supposed to rip apart their rooms for the materials for the dress.
He was pressing one of the guys to use something like plastic chains from the bathroom as the straps on a dress to maintain the spirit of the challenge.
A few hours later, the designer got frustrated & just tore them off. His dress came out well & impressed th designers for looking polished w/o kooky adornmnts.
But that was once.
Usually, Gunn's guidance is dead on.

BTW, I will concede that I did enjoy some of her designs & she's got quite a pretty face.

And it was hysterical that they dressed her up as a pop diva in a previous challenge. That was an interesting makeover.

I would agree that Kenley definitely needs to learn how to take constructive criticism gracefully while still defending her work in a way that doesn't insult others.

However, in my opinion, she is still the most interesting designer on the show. You have to remember that when it came down to her or Suede, Suede had been in the bottom two 3 times before. That was her first time. It really bugged me when the other three ganged up on her. Just so childish. And Kato having the nerve to yell at her for saying the other two should go to fashion week, when all three of them had just trashed Kenley to the judges was just unbelievable.

The stress of living & working together brings out antagonism that might seem well deserved to those involved. But we viewers dont get to see th full story.

In the previous season, Christian seemed to be annoying the other contestants, but he was voted a viewer favorite.

Suede's Rock&Roll design didnt have any problems except not going far enuff. Kenley's Hiphop design had execution problems w/ the crotch of the high waisted jeans. And the judge thought they looked like 'mom' jeans.

But I can see her dilemma. I really dont know much about Hip-hop so I wouldnt know where to start. And the style didnt reflect her subject either, so it was a rather pointless outfit.

I wasn't saying Kenley's hip-hop design was great...although, I'm not really one to judge hip-hop. I think that if you end up in the bottom two, the judges and whoever else is deciding take your history in past shows into account as well. Suede had been at the bottom more times than Kenley. Apart from those pants, her construction is generally better than a lot of the others. The "mom" jeans comment was really off base. That style of high-waisted skinny jeans with the yoke are all over the place right now. If they were mainly going on construction and fit, Jerell (not sure I'm remembering his name right) so wouldn't have won the last show because that dress had issues.

And yes, I'm sure a lot goes on that we never see. Obviously, part of getting on the show is your ability to create drama.

Ive seen some of the previous Project Runway dresses up close & they are pretty much slapped together as you would imagine an outfit constructed in one evening would be.

AS for past performance...I think thats whats got kenley in trouble right now. She was stronger in teh early part of the season & now they're wanting to see soemthing different from her.
Its happened before. Like with Uli's flowey patterned dresses.
Or when Laura Bennet did a lot of classic retro dresses, but redeemed herself by going with a younger look w/ a sort of 20s flapper dress.

Ya, I can't say that I know alot about whats current in hip-hop (do they even call it hip-hop now a days?), but I KNOW that I have seen that high waisted pant/short jacket look in a Salt-N-Peppa video before. There was certainly no call for the others to snipe about "that ain't hip-hop" and make fun of her. If I had to listen to that kind BS, I would be overly defensive too.

I enjoy Kenley's designs and of course her personal style and I think she has a lot of talent, I just do not appreciate the attitude she takes with people who have been working in the industry at a top level a heck of a lot longer than she has been designing professionally.

While fashion is quite subjective one has to take basic and core advice that relates to design no matter what one's style is, and I think Kenley as of late has had a lack of respect for the judges and the ability to take constructive criticism. My .02 anyways :)

It was more that she wasnt listening to others so they felt little impulse to offer her help. Wasnt there a part where she said something about AliciaKeys & it was pointed out that Keys was more R&B. Instead of asking for even more info, she got defensive over Keys.
And thus the nasty competition begins.

Compare last season when ChristianSiriano got stuck w/ the feisty teenager for the prom dress design. Siriano was a hair away from elimination. And he didnt have the composure to talk the young client out of th design. I dont think anyone wouldve been surprised if he was AUFFED for that dress. But you could see that the competitors & judges had sympathy for his predicament.

I'm a huge Project Runway fan! This season really falls short of talent compared to last season.
Mahogonny Bill, you are very kind and that is an interesting perpective about Kenley. But I think that it boils down to her just being immature and rude. 'No one understands me' and 'I'm a tough girl' is wearing thin. She should just suck it up and take the advice of Tim/judges like everyone else. This season did have alot of backsassing and defending on the runway though.

I started out liking Kenley because of her personal style and her 'vintage influence' I see some 40s and 50s influence in her clothing, but the pieces really look more like 80s versions of the 40s and 50s rather than a more modern version.

I still think Kenley will be in the final 3 though. I really like Jerell, but I think his clothing can be a bit gaudy and extreme.

I would have liked to have seen more from Kelly, who I thought was eliminated way too soon. She was more talented than Joe or Suede. She just ended up with a really bad outfit early on (the Brooke Shields challenge)
