+sigh+ When will people learn? Drinking and driving is just never a good idea. Plain and simple.
My condolences to Barbigirl and her family. I wish her a speedy recovery, and I hope she's back on her feet posting in the Lounge in no time.
She will be in my thoughts.
I have a gray Stetson stingy brim that really compliments my Levi's jacket. Full cut khaki pants, a white or off white button up collared shirt, boots, and maybe some suspenders. Sort of a "just-got-off-workwear".
I don't wear suits daily, so it's hard for me to incorporate the fedora as...
I don't know if women wore Hawaiian shirts in the 50's, but I wouldn't doubt it. I imagine worn tucked in, sort of a blouse style, one would look perfectly fine.
Thanks for the link to that post! Gene's suspenders would work great with my trousers. I'll have to PM him for details.
Convertible suspenders will work also, I didn't know these existed. I'll dig around for some!
Thanks all!
Thanks David, that does make sense. I was curious if it was a system like that, or suspenders hooked to the rings somehow. If I can't find any suspenders, I'm confident I can alter some existing ones to work. Or just wear a belt. lol
I recently purchased three pairs of European military wool trousers. They're not super vintage style, but not especially modern either. They're thick wool and will be great in the winter. Only $4.88 a pair on clearance at Cabela's, so that was the deciding factor.
On to my question...
Story, thank you so much for posting those links. This is a very interesting story and I'm going to keep up with it.
I'm going on a canoe trip in July, but I'll only be on the water for about 12 hours...
Yeah, Carebear, that's what I was talking about. I know in my day they were only available through the supply system, but I'm sure I can get a hold of some.
Mojave Jack? Do you recall seeing these at your Exchange or elsewhere? I'd gladly compensate you for the price, shipping, + if so...
Ah I see.. I think I'm mistaken. I thought Carebear was referring to the military issue green notebooks. They were used primarily as log books. I'm not sure if he meant those, or the little green Rite in the Rain books (they're both cool!)
Hey Carebear, I remember those "little green notebooks" from my Navy days. I have managed to hang on to one. Do you have any idea where I can purchase these books, or replicas? I've scoured the net for surplus stores, etc. with no luck I'm not sure if the actual term is a logbook or what...
It's drinking the water!!!
I've always wanted one of these! They're adorable. All I can think of is the Simpson's episode, "Brother, Can You Spare Two Dimes", where Homer's brother uses one of these drinking birds as an example of marketing...
Herb: Let me show you this.

Yeesh.. scratch the dark brown chinos. They just don't look right with the khaki shirt. Too.. bleh. Maybe a light proper British tan color will work. It's easy to find a shirt with khaki pants, but pants with a khaki shirt is another matter... these earth tones are hard to match. Maybe gray?
How about this?
This is obviously the most fashionable option.
But seriously, if you're wanting to photograph both sides, I'd say go with civilian attire. Maybe with a couple of pieces of random field gear, which would have been obtained "on the job". I really like the look of...
Sorry, I had forgotten about this thread! The shirt arrived a couple of weeks ago. It did take awhile to get here now that I think of it. It is cotton, and the tag has it dated 1945.
My current issue is what to wear with this. It's getting warm and humid here in Missouri, so, I'll likely...

Here I am circa 2003, in the Torpedo Room on board the USS Augusta, SSN 710., a fast attack submarine. I'm sure she's decommissioned or on her way to being decommissioned by now. I believe the Augusta has been around since 1982 or 1983.
I'm just wearing the work coverall uniform...
Yeah, I'm wondering what kind of material it will turn out to be. The pockets look rather large, is that pretty typical? If they are I'll just full them with things.
